The railway resumed passenger trains on the Hanoi - Lao Cai route from September 23, serving tourists to Sapa.

Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company said that this unit will resume daily operation of the SP3/SP4 passenger train pair on the Hanoi - Lao Cai route from September 23, serving people traveling on the route and tourists visiting Sapa during the rice harvest season.
The Hanoi - Lao Cai railway was severely affected by storm No. 3 and recent widespread flooding with hundreds of flooded and landslide spots. The railway was promptly repaired and reopened on September 15.

However, there are still many slow-running stations, with train speeds ranging from 10-15km/h, so so far only freight trains have been running normally. Passenger trains will start running from September 23, but will have to reduce speed and extend the journey. According to the announced schedule, train SP3 departs from Hanoi station at 10:00 p.m. and arrives at Lao Cai station at 5:55 a.m.; train SP4 departs from Lao Cai station at 9:30 p.m. and arrives at Hanoi station at 5:25 a.m. However, due to slow-running stations, the train will depart earlier, expected to be 30-60 minutes. When there is a specific train schedule, the railway industry will notify passengers via the phone number registered when purchasing tickets. Currently, the ticket price for the SP3/SP4 pair ranges from 280,000-420,000 VND/ticket/trip depending on seat type, carriage type, departure date and direction of travel. The railway also sells bus tickets from Lao Cai station to destinations in Sapa within a 2km radius of the Stone Church or vice versa, the service price is 55,000 VND/ticket/trip. Passengers can buy bus tickets when buying train tickets directly or online. Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company also said that after the storm, there were passengers who returned their tickets but not many. This pair of trains mainly serves international tourists, southern tourists traveling to Sapa registered to buy tickets many days before the storm. It is known that Sapa was heavily affected by storm No. 3, many roads to tourist destinations were eroded but have been repaired. Most tourist destinations have reopened to visitors since September 14.
