(CLO) Mr. Donald Trump won the US presidential election after maintaining his stance with core voters and attracting some additional groups of voters who leaned towards the Democratic Party.

AP VoteCast, a comprehensive survey of more than 120,000 voters across the United States, found out how key demographic groups voted in the 2024 US presidential election.

Mr. Trump won 73,361,410 popular votes (50.7%) and Ms. Harris won 69,043,761 votes (47.7%), a difference of more than 4.3 million popular votes. This result contributed to Mr. Trump winning 301 electoral votes, 75 more than Ms. Harris (the state of Arizona is still not finalized).

Most voters who voted for Mr. Trump were white.

More than eight in 10 Trump voters this election are white, about the same as in 2020. Only about two-thirds of Harris voters are white. White voters are also more likely to support Trump than Harris in the battleground states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Nationally, about 8 in 10 black voters supported Ms. Harris. But that was down from about 9 in 10 in the presidential election, which Mr. Biden won.

Young black male voters have been voting for Mr Trump, with about three in 10 black men under the age of 45 voting for Mr Trump, nearly double the number he received in 2020.

More Hispanic voters support Trump than in 2020

This year, Ms. Harris won more than half of Hispanic voters, down slightly from the roughly six in 10 Hispanic voters Mr. Biden won in 2020.

Hispanic voters were more open to Mr Trump than in 2020. About half of Latino men voted for Ms Harris, down from about 6 in 10 who voted for Mr Biden.

Support for Trump among both men and women has increased slightly.

Mr Trump benefited from slight gains among both men and women, while Ms Harris fared slightly worse than Mr Biden in 2020.

Among women, Ms. Harris won 53% to Mr. Trump’s 46%, but that advantage was slightly smaller than Mr. Biden’s. Mr. Biden won 55% of women, while 43% favored Trump in 2020.

Mr Trump also achieved similar results among men, but incremental improvements in many other demographic groups contributed to his spectacular overall victory.
