The humiliating defeat to France on the evening of August 31 caused the Chinese women's volleyball team to drop significantly in the rankings.

Before entering the Women's Volleyball World Championship, China was ranked 4th in the world and 1st in Asia. After August 29, Japan temporarily rose to take this position thanks to the victory over Thailand.

But many people believed that China would soon rise, because they only had to face a weaker French team in every aspect on the evening of August 31. But then everything happened contrary to many people's predictions.

The star athletes of the Chinese women's volleyball team were completely helpless against an opponent that was considered much weaker.

As a result, they suffered a humiliating 1-3 defeat and were eliminated early in the round of 16.

But that was not the only serious consequence. Because France was ranked many places below, the Chinese team also had a lot of points deducted after this defeat.

Specifically, the Asian representative was deducted 18.27 points on the world rankings, leaving a total of only 337.02 points.

They also dropped to 7th place in the world, thereby officially losing the No. 1 position in Asian women's volleyball. Instead, Japan will take this position thanks to their current world ranking of 4th.

At this year's World Championship, the Chinese women's volleyball team left too many disappointments. They still passed the group stage with 3 wins. This is understandable because the opponents were all considered much weaker.

But the way China won was really problematic. They had "silly" set losses against much weaker opponents like Mexico and Colombia.

The Chinese athletes showed a lackluster and poor performance. In the victory over Colombia in the group stage, coach Zhao Yong even cursed his players on the field because of their continuous mistakes.

The loss to France in the round of 16 was a surprise result, but it reflects the true face of the Chinese team in this year's tournament. The last time the Asian representative won a major title was in 2016, with a gold medal at the Rio Olympics.

As for the World Cup, they have not won it since 1982.
