Currently, there is information reflected in the media that Vietnam has recorded the first case of Chikungunya disease.
On the evening of August 24, the Ministry of Health "denied" the above information and said that since the beginning of 2025, Vietnam has not recorded any cases of this disease.
Authorities continue to advise people to continue taking recommended preventive measures and to regularly update information from official sources.
Chikungunya disease is currently on the rise in China and Singapore and is spreading to parts of Africa, South Asia and Europe.
According to the Department of Preventive Medicine (Ministry of Health), Chikungunya is an infectious disease caused by the Chikungunya virus (CHIKV). Chikungunya is not transmitted directly from person to person but is transmitted through the Aedes mosquito (the same type of mosquito that transmits dengue fever). Mosquitoes mainly bite during the day and can peak in activity in the early morning and late afternoon.
To proactively prevent and control Chikungunya, the Ministry of Health recommends that people take preventive measures. People in households and residential areas need to take preventive measures such as: Covering all water containers to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs; Weekly implementing measures to kill mosquito larvae by releasing fish into large water containers.../.
