Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development affirms that Thac Ba Hydropower Plant is still safe.

On the morning of September 11, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long inspected the situation of Thac Ba hydropower reservoir ( Yen Bai province) and checked the operation of this project.

At this time, the hydroelectric reservoir is operating stably, the water flow to the lake is at more than 3,100 m3/s, and the rain has stopped.

Talking with leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), leaders of Yen Bai province and Director of Thac Ba Hydropower Plant, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long emphasized the requirement: Strictly implement the Prime Minister's instructions.

The Deputy Prime Minister especially noted, "in all situations, the highest priority is always the health and lives of the people."

Regarding the general situation, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep said: "Up to this point, Thac Ba hydropower reservoir is safe."

Mr. Hiep emphasized: "Although there is still much work to be done, with the current water flow and discharge, we affirm that Thac Ba Hydropower Plant is safe."

Mr. Hiep said: It will take about 1-2 more days for the lake to return to the allowable water level and people in the area must still stay in shelters to prevent any unexpected events that may occur. Mr. Hiep said that, with the weather forecast, the Thac Ba Hydropower problem will be resolved well, the water level will drop below the allowable threshold.

The forecast for rainfall in this area in the next 48 hours is about 40-50 mm and in the next 24 hours, the rainfall is about 15-20 mm. Currently, the authorities have calculated all options and proactively prepared forces to respond with the spirit of minimizing damage, in which, people's lives are the most important.

According to the report of Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee on the morning of September 11, due to the influence of storm No. 3, there was light rain in areas of Yen Bai province from the evening of September 10 to the morning of September 11.

Currently, the water level of Thao River in Yen Bai, at 6:00 a.m. on September 11, was 34.63 m (above BĐ3: 2.63 m). On Ngoi Thia River, the water level at 5:00 a.m. on September 11, was 42.01 m (below BĐ1: 2.46 m). On Chay River in Thac Ba, the water level at 5:00 a.m. on September 11, was 28.83 m (above BĐ3: 6.83 m).
