Last night, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) banned the Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team for using ineligible players. That caused coach Nguyen Trong Linh's team to lose 4 matches and only keep the result of the win over Puerto Rico.

With this penalty, the U21 women's volleyball team of Vietnam has fallen from second place to the bottom of the table and no longer has the chance to go further in the tournament. This is a very regrettable thing for Vietnamese volleyball.

Commenting on the FIVB's penalty for the Vietnamese women's U21 volleyball team having its results annulled, Siam Sport (Thailand) headlined: "Shocking the world! The Vietnamese women's U21 volleyball team's results were annulled because the athlete failed the chromosome test."

In the article, the author emphasized: “The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has announced the results of its investigation, determining that two Vietnamese U21 women’s volleyball players are not eligible to participate in the tournament. The results of the team with these two athletes participating will be canceled. In addition, FIVB may consider increasing the penalty.

Two Vietnamese athletes were forced to undergo chromosome testing after their excellent performance in the tournament, helping the U21 women's volleyball team win 4 and lose 1 in the group stage. Previously, the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Federation (VVF) denied this information, saying that the Organizing Committee only requested additional documents.

FIVB believes that the Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team violated Articles 12.2 and 13.5.2 of the Competition Regulations, as well as Article 14.4 of the 2023 Disciplinary Regulations. Therefore, the FIVB Disciplinary Board has decided to cancel all results of this team when two athletes were not eligible to compete. FIVB is even considering imposing additional penalties after the tournament, creating conditions for the Vietnam Volleyball Federation and the athletes to provide written explanations.

Thairath newspaper (Thailand) also commented: "Two Vietnamese athletes were forced to undergo chromosome testing and could not participate in the match against Puerto Rico at the U21 Women's Volleyball World Championship held in Indonesia.

After that, FIVB announced that these two athletes were not eligible to compete and decided to cancel the results of the U21 women's volleyball team of Vietnam with their participation. This penalty caused the volleyball team of Vietnam to lose their ticket to the next round and fall to the bottom of the table. Not only that, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation also had to explain further to FIVB in writing, otherwise they risk receiving additional penalties in the future.

Meanwhile, Bola (Indonesia) newspaper wrote: "The Indonesian women's U21 volleyball team unexpectedly got a ticket to the round of 16 when the Vietnamese volleyball team received a penalty."

The author wrote: “FIVB has decided to cancel all results of the Vietnam U21 women’s volleyball team because of using ineligible players. Therefore, this team has been eliminated from the round of 16 of the U21 Women’s Volleyball World Cup. This creates conditions for the Indonesia U21 women’s volleyball team to be present in the round of 16.

Following concerns about the use of an ineligible player by the Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team, the FIVB launched an investigation. Ultimately, the FIVB concluded that the team violated Articles 12.2 and 13.5.2 of the Competition Regulations, as well as Article 14.4 of the 2023 Disciplinary Regulations. The FIVB will not comment further on the sanction during the tournament. Meanwhile, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation must provide a written explanation."

The Tribun News commented: “The U21 women’s volleyball team of Vietnam was proven to have violated the rules by using two ineligible players. During the test, the two players did not meet the requirements of the FIVB. Therefore, the volleyball governing body decided that the U21 women’s volleyball team of Vietnam used ineligible players. They canceled the results of the team when these two players participated.

Instead of winning a ticket to the round of 16, the Vietnamese women's U21 volleyball team fell to the bottom of the table. The Indonesian women's U21 volleyball team surprisingly got a ticket to the next round despite losing to the Vietnamese volleyball team in the opening match.
