Changing leadership style: Message from the General Secretary's 'speak short, write short' speech

Perhaps it has been a long time since we have heard such a concise, succinct, hearty and inspiring political message on such an important holiday as the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2.

Boldly changing so that people do not have to listen to long speeches is a manifestation of the attitude of listening to and respecting the people - a change in thinking in communicating with the people.

We have just witnessed the days when the whole country was covered in red flags, the color of millions of hearts rejoicing in the joy of independence - something that over the past 80 years, under the leadership of the Party and beloved President Ho Chi Minh , the entire Vietnamese people have continuously worked, fought, sacrificed, and devoted all their heart, talent, intelligence, and strength to gain, maintain, and develop to a new height of intelligence, courage, and aspiration towards the future.

Oath of honor before History, before the People

80 years - the historical journey of building the country with brilliant milestones of the whole nation was portrayed truthfully and appropriately in the speech of General Secretary To Lam : brief, concise, to the point and full of meaning.

In nearly 1,480 words of the speech, the word " People" was mentioned 17 times, " Nation" was mentioned 13 times, "Independence" was mentioned 10 times and "Fatherland" was mentioned 9 times . That shows that the message and subject that the General Secretary wanted to emphasize in the speech was none other than "People", "Nation", "Independence", and "Fatherland".

Today's Vietnam is a priceless asset built from the blood and bones of heroic martyrs, the great sacrifice of heroic Vietnamese mothers and generations of fathers and brothers who fought bravely, dedicating their youth to the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, the crystallization of a thousand-year cultural tradition of building and defending the country, of the nation's resilience, intelligence, compassion and aspiration to reach out.

That spirit has forged the great strength of the August Revolution, of the two long resistance wars against colonialism and imperialism, of the cause of building and defending the Fatherland in peace, of the cause of innovation, development and international integration.

" That is the power that originates from the people, belongs to the people and is for the people, " said General Secretary To Lam.

After 80 years of fighting and building the country, we are proud to affirm that: Every victory of the Vietnamese revolution is associated with the correct and wise leadership of the Party and Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style.

Thanks to that, our people overcame countless difficulties and challenges, stood up to break the chains of slavery, and became free people.

Thanks to that, we have overcome the inferiority complex of a weak nation, determined to build Vietnam into an independent, unified nation, steadily moving towards modernity, deep integration, and gaining increasingly high position and prestige in the international arena.

Under the glorious flag of the Party, the light of Ho Chi Minh's ideology illuminating the way, relying on the strength of the People and the great solidarity of the entire nation, there is no difficulty or challenge that we cannot overcome, no noble goal that we cannot conquer.

Therefore, there is no reason that can prevent Vietnam from reaching peace, prosperity and longevity.  

80 years have passed, in the echoes of those historic autumn days, we still hear the echoes of Uncle Ho's 1945 Declaration of Independence urging millions of Vietnamese people to beat together with pride, resounding the oath "to die for the Fatherland, to live for it".

The more we understand the value of “Independence”, “Freedom”, and “Happiness”, the more every Vietnamese citizen today must absolutely not compromise with any plots and actions that violate independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity; resolutely defend the interests of the nation and people; join hands and unite to turn aspirations into reality.

We promote the highest level of Vietnamese intelligence, creativity and mettle; successfully carry out the goals and tasks set by the Party and State, and the people's expectations, so that by 2045, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the country, Vietnam will become a powerful, prosperous and happy nation.

That is the aspiration of the Nation, an oath of honor before History, before the People.

Concise, easy to understand, easy to remember, easy to implement

The spirit of "speaking briefly and writing briefly so that people can easily hear and remember" is also reflected in the draft documents of the 14th Congress.

Unlike previous Congresses, the process of preparing documents for the 14th Party Congress was also directed by General Secretary To Lam to integrate the contents of 3 documents: Political Report, Socio-Economic Report and Party Building Summary Report into a Political Report in a consistent, unified and synchronous manner to submit to the Congress.

The General Secretary stated: Documents need to be carefully reviewed for wording and expression, ensuring they are concise, easy to understand, easy to remember, and easy to implement.

This is a breakthrough thinking, demonstrating a creative approach, avoiding duplication and inconsistency between reports, demonstrating the true stature of the Political Report, thereby contributing to improving the quality and effectiveness so that the documents of the 14th Congress " are truly a torch to light the way, a handbook for action for the entire Party " as the General Secretary noted.

Because the Party leads comprehensively, synchronously, and inseparably in all fields of politics, economics, culture, society, national defense, security, foreign affairs, etc., the documents submitted to the Congress must be unified and closely linked to the country's strategic tasks, and cannot be divided into separate tasks, and each task cannot be a separate report.

Nearly a hundred years of living in the hearts of the people, accompanying the nation, the Party's highest goal is to serve the people, to serve the Fatherland. How great our Party is, the people know it all, there is no need to tell at length.
