Inviting Vietnam and Cambodia to participate in a series of friendly matches during the upcoming FIFA Days is part of Bangladesh's preparation plan. The team sees this as an opportunity to review its squad and gain experience before entering the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. If Vietnam and Cambodia agree to participate, this will be an opportunity for all three teams to test their squad and test their tactics in an official competition environment.
Notably, if they participate, the Vietnamese team will have an important preparation step before entering the match against Nepal in the next round of the 2027 Asian Cup on October 9. In the most recent training session in June, coach Kim Sang-sik and his students did not have any international friendly matches, instead only organizing internal practice matches with U22 Vietnam.
VFF has not yet given an official response to the invitation from Bangladesh. However, if Vietnam makes good use of the upcoming FIFA Days, the team will have more conditions to complete the tactical framework under coach Kim Sang-sik, and at the same time accumulate points on the FIFA rankings.
Previously, the Vietnamese team refused to participate in the 2025 King's Cup in Thailand. The country's football federation invited Iraq, Hong Kong and the Republic of Fiji. If they continue to refuse the invitations, the Vietnamese team will be left out of the international friendly matches while their regional opponents all have active schedules. Malaysia will participate in the tournament in Central Asia. Meanwhile, Indonesia and the Philippines are planning to play friendly matches with stronger opponents on the FIFA rankings.
