“Today (October 12), we will announce that the temporary control will be extended until November 2… We will also inform the European Commission that we are entering the second phase and extending the temporary control,” Mr. Kaminski shared.

According to the official, the border control measures are clearly effective and “there will be no illegal migration routes through Poland”.

Temporary controls on the Polish-Slovak border were first introduced on October 4.

The move was made after Slovakia announced on October 11 that it would extend border controls with Hungary until November 3.

Slovakia introduced border controls on October 5, after countries such as Poland, the Czech Republic and Austria tightened their borders with Bratislava.

The number of migrants arriving in Slovakia - mainly from the Middle East and Afghanistan - has increased 11-fold to nearly 40,000 this year, according to government statistics.
