To keep old age from being boring
This year, she turns 78, but for Ms. Dao Thi Dao, Group 2, Phan Thiet Ward (Tuyen Quang City), old age is not boring at all, but on the contrary, always filled with joy. Every day, after preparing meals and cleaning the house, she actively participates in activities of the elderly and the neighborhood, especially cultural, artistic and sports activities, helping to make life more joyful and meaningful.
Ms. Dao Thi Dao (standing first on the right) of Phan Thiet ward ( Tuyen Quang city) is happy and joyful when regularly practicing health exercises with the health exercise club.
Ms. Dao shared: “I have been retired for a long time, if I stay at home all the time, I can easily get sick, my memory and health will decline. Not only young people, but also old people still have many joys and hobbies for themselves. Therefore, I often make appointments to socialize with friends who share the same interests and regularly participate in health exercises. Thanks to that, I find life always joyful and not boring like when I first retired.”
On her personal Facebook page, Ms. Trieu Thi Luu (65 years old), Nang Kha commune (Na Hang), regularly posts about fun and entertainment activities and shares her positive and happy statuses and emotions. To improve her spiritual life, Ms. Luu also initiated movements to practice folk dancing, play volleyball... to create a playground for the elderly.
Despite suffering from many elderly diseases, Ms. Nguyen Thi Toan, Yen Phu commune (Ham Yen), still maintains an optimistic and positive lifestyle. She is always aware of her health, actively exercises by walking every day, takes care of the plants around the house and creates joy for herself every day by regularly meeting and chatting with elderly friends in the village. “After a lifetime of worrying and working hard to raise my children until they have settled down, now is the time for me to rest, have fun and pay more attention to my health. When I am happier and healthier, my children and grandchildren can also work with peace of mind,” Ms. Toan shared.
Regular exercise helps the elderly live happily and healthily.
Accompanying the elderly
One of the greatest joys of old age is peace and serenity. After years of running around, worrying about career, family and children, this is the time for the elderly to put aside their burdens, slow down and enjoy every moment. No more work pressure, no more racing against time, they can leisurely enjoy a cup of morning tea, read a good book, gather with their children and grandchildren or simply admire the small green garden.
Ms. Bui Thi Hong Sinh, Group 17, Phan Thiet Ward shared: Every day she still regularly takes care of and keeps her parents company when her siblings all work far from home. Ms. Sinh expressed that this year her father is 90 years old, her mother is 86 years old. She always feels lucky because she still has her parents by her side. Therefore, every day, along with taking care of her physical health, she always spends time asking and talking to her parents, so that they are not lonely in old age. For a child, there is nothing happier than seeing their parents happy and healthy.
At the age of 80, Mr. Phan Van Thang's health has been declining, making it difficult for him to move around. To keep his father from being bored and from feeling pain, Mr. Thang's children take turns taking him back to his hometown to visit relatives and visit his "old friends" on weekends. "Every time we go like that, we see him getting healthier and more excited. Sometimes, old people will not say what they want or need. Therefore, as children, we always put ourselves in our father's shoes, understanding his wishes so that he can feel the care of his children and grandchildren, and make him happier," said his daughter, Phan Thi Thoa.
The joy of old age does not come naturally, it is the result of a process of cultivation, accumulation from life experiences, from tolerance and open-mindedness. It is the time to reap the sweet fruits from the garden of life that has been sown, the time to be grateful for what you have, and continue to enjoy the simple, peaceful things with family and loved ones.
