Patients and their relatives come to receive meals at the "0 VND" kitchen located in the campus of Soc Trang Military Hospital.
The “zero-dong” kitchen located in the Soc Trang Military Hospital, founded by Ms. Tran My Van, has become a “support” for many people in difficult circumstances. For the past 13 years, every day from Monday to Sunday at around 10 am, patients and their families have come to receive free lunches. Although the value of each meal is not large, it helps poor patients ease their difficulties in their journey of “fighting” against illness.
Ms. Luong Thi Tam - a "regular customer" of the kitchen for many months, shared: "My children all have to earn a living, so I am in the hospital alone, begging for rice. Receiving the meals, I feel warm like I am at home...". Holding the hot meal in her hand, Ms. Duong Thi Soi emotionally said: "I have been taking care of a sick relative for several days, every meal I ask for charity rice. Having a place to distribute charity rice helps people save money, and also eases some of the worries during difficult times."
Since the charity kitchen started operating, Ms. Van has been one of the people who cook and manage the kitchen. On average, the kitchen prepares 200-250 meals a day. Ms. Van confided: "This place not only gives charity meals but also shares love with the less fortunate in the community."
At Soc Trang General Hospital, from Monday to Friday every week, the charity kitchen is always on fire, many people are busy preparing free meals and porridge to give to patients being treated at the hospital. Every day, twice in the morning and afternoon, hundreds of patients and their relatives come to receive charity meals from the kitchen. Mr. Lam Buol, who is taking care of his wife being treated at the hospital's Internal Medicine Department, said: "My wife is constantly sick. Being given free meals, my wife and I don't have to worry about food anymore, it saves a lot of things!"
Since the beginning of the year, tens of thousands of free meals have been delivered to the sick. Ms. Ma To Phuong, the owner of the charity kitchen, said: “Every day, seeing the meals and food being distributed, we are very excited because we feel we have contributed something to help people during their illness. I hope that in the future, benefactors will continue to support so that the charity kitchen can be maintained for a long time, helping more people.”
