Speaking at a press conference in the capital Algiers, he said the above solution was proposed by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, focusing on consultation between relevant parties in Niger.

The diplomat stressed that General Abdourahamane Tchiani, head of Niger's military government, has called for “a transition period lasting up to three years.”

According to Foreign Minister Attaf, the priority is to set a six-month time frame to draft and implement a guaranteed political solution to return the West African country to constitutional order and democracy, instead of the three-year transition plan previously proposed by the coup.

He also noted that the process would include comprehensive political arrangements to effectively address the situation in Niger under the supervision of a civilian authority supported through consensus.

At the same time, the transition plan also includes organizing an international conference to raise funds for development programs in the Sahel region.

Foreign Minister Attaf reiterated that Algeria, which shares a nearly 1,000-km border with Niger, opposes any armed intervention in its neighbor.

“We reject a military solution. How can we allow our airspace to be used for a military operation?” he stressed.

Algeria's top diplomat has just visited three countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), namely Nigeria, Benin and Ghana.

Meanwhile, Algerian Deputy Foreign Minister Lounes Magramane has arrived in Niamey, the capital of Niger, to meet with the military-appointed Prime Minister, Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine.
