Trump shared classified information with others

In a July 2021 conversation with a writer at the Bedminster Club in New Jersey, Trump allegedly described an “attack plan” against another country that a military official had proposed in a classified document. Trump said the information was “highly classified” and that he could have declassified it as president. The exchange was recorded, according to the indictment.

During a meeting later that year in Bedminster, Mr. Trump allegedly showed a representative of his political action committee a classified map of another country while discussing an ongoing military campaign there.

Trump asked his assistant to hide the documents

After receiving a subpoena in May 2022 demanding that he produce all classified documents in his possession, Mr. Trump allegedly directed his aide Walt Nauta to move 64 boxes of documents from a storage room at Mar-a-Lago to his residence.

A photo in the indictment shows boxes allegedly containing classified documents stored in a bathroom at Mar-a-Lago.

Mr. Trump is aware of his responsibility.

The indictment includes statements that Mr. Trump made during his campaign and presidency that show he understood the importance of handling classified material appropriately.

“In my administration, I will enforce all laws related to protecting classified information,” Mr. Trump said during the 2016 campaign. “No one is above the law.”
