16 Vietnamese universities listed in world influence rankings 2025

16 universities in Vietnam have just entered the influential rankings of the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking organization, the most ever.

Times Higher Education (THE) has just announced the Impact Ranking 2025. This ranking aims to evaluate universities in implementing the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.

Schools must demonstrate their commitment to addressing pressing global challenges such as inequality reduction, gender equality, qualityeducation , and cooperation for development goals.

16 Vietnamese universities entered the world influence rankings.

This year, more than 2,500 universities from 130 countries or territories participated in the ranking. Of these, 16 Vietnamese universities were included in this list.

Accordingly, FPT University, National Economics University, Nguyen Tat Thanh University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics are all ranked in group 301-400, the highest among Vietnamese schools.

In the 401-600 group, Duy Tan University and Ton Duc Thang University are ranked the same. Van Lang University is in the 601-800 group, up 200 places compared to last year. Meanwhile, Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Hanoi National University are ranked 801-1,000. Compared to last year, this year the number of ranked schools increased by 3 schools.

Globally, Australia's Western Sydney University remains at the top of THE's impact rankings for the fourth year in a row. The UK's University of Manchester remains at number two. Indonesia's Airlangga University is ranked ninth as the most sustainable institution from an emerging economy.

Asian universities account for more than half of the total places in the ranking. In addition, this year, eight countries/territories appear in the ranking for the first time.

To rank, THE calculates points as follows: SDG 17 (Partnership for Development Goals) is mandatory, with a weight of 22%. This score is combined with the 3 highest-scoring SDGs out of the remaining 16 SDGs, each criterion accounting for 26% of the total score to produce the final result. For each SDG, points are calculated based on the following factors: Research, service, community engagement and education.
