Peace of mind in old age thanks to pension scheme

Many people have chosen to participate in voluntary social insurance during the remaining time instead of receiving a one-time benefit to enjoy retirement, ensuring their future life when they reach retirement age.

Living well on pension

Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong (born in 1968, Binh An village, Tien Phuoc commune) received her first pension in July 2025. When she was still of working age, Ms. Phuong worked as a janitor for a local school and participated in the compulsory social insurance (SI) regime for 11 years and 7 months.

When she reached retirement age, she quit her job but did not have enough time to participate in social insurance, so she was hesitant between withdrawing social insurance at once or continuing to voluntarily contribute to enjoy retirement benefits.

After receiving advice from the service organization staff and support from her children, Ms. Phuong decided to voluntarily pay social insurance for 20 years in June 2025. By July 2025, Ms. Phuong will be eligible to receive a pension.

Ms. Phuong said: “Because I work as a janitor, my compulsory social insurance contribution coefficient is low. Now I receive a pension of more than 2.2 million VND/month. Although this amount is not high, I feel secure when I retire, especially with the accompanying health insurance, which will reduce costs when I get sick or ill.”

In Tien Phu Tay village (Tien Phuoc commune), Ms. Vo Thi Hoa lives alone and has no support when she gets old. In the past, Ms. Hoa worked as a garment worker in the city and participated in compulsory social insurance for 11 years and 2 months before reaching retirement age.

When she returned to her hometown, she was advised by an employee of Song Tien Insurance Company Limited and decided to withdraw her savings of more than 130 million VND to participate in voluntary social insurance during the remaining time to be eligible to receive a pension of 2.8 million VND/month from March 2025.

Talking about this decision, Ms. Hoa confided: “To be honest, when I withdrew the above savings to pay for voluntary social insurance, many people also discouraged me. But if I withdraw my social insurance at once, I will spend it all. I myself do not have a husband or children, so I will not know where to rely on if I spend all my savings. But if I continue to participate in voluntary social insurance to receive my pension immediately, I will have a solid support for my old age, and I will have a health insurance card that supports up to 95% of the cost of medical examination and treatment. The spirit of not worrying helps me live a healthier and better life.”

Stick to the policy propaganda base

Mr. Huynh Ngoc Hung, Deputy Director of Tien Phuoc - Hiep Duc Inter-District Social Insurance, said that since July 1, there have been many changes in the operations of the state administrative apparatus, but employees, collection agents of Social Insurance and collection service organizations still stick to the grassroots level, propagating and mobilizing people to participate in voluntary social insurance and family health insurance.

In Tien Phuoc and Hiep Duc areas, the total number of voluntary social insurance participants by June 30, 2025 was 2,931. In the first 6 months of 2025, staff and collection agents promoted and mobilized 396 new participants.

In particular, in June, a collection officer of Song Tien Insurance Company Limited, Ms. Nguyen Thi Diem Ly (Lanh Ngoc commune), developed 24 new people to participate in voluntary social insurance. While Lanh Ngoc commune is a difficult area, the people's lives are mainly agricultural , but Ms. Ly has been very active in promoting and developing voluntary social insurance participants.

Mr. Hung said: “The staff and tax agents of the entire Tien Phuoc and Hiep Duc areas have had many effective ways of propaganda. Due to the arrangement of the state administrative apparatus, the staff did not coordinate with the locality to organize large propaganda conferences but instead switched to propaganda in small groups.

It is the direct, individual-specific propaganda that is very effective. Staff also take advantage of social networks to effectively disseminate information and policies to the people.

In particular, from July 1, in addition to retirement and death benefits, voluntary social insurance participants will also receive maternity benefits. People who have paid voluntary social insurance or have paid both compulsory social insurance and voluntary social insurance for at least 6 months within 12 months before giving birth will receive maternity benefits, including female workers giving birth and male workers whose wives have given birth. This is an advantage for employees to more effectively promote policies to the people, especially young freelance workers.
