In the peanut fields of Yen Lam commune, the harvest atmosphere is bustling and urgent, some people are pulling peanuts, some are pounding tubers, some are busy packing bags. The joy is clearly visible on the farmers' faces.
Mr. Ho Van Dua in Dong Doai village (Yen Lam) excitedly said: This year, I planted 3 sao of L29 peanut variety. With this variety, we were supported with seeds and instructed on planting techniques, fertilization, and pest control. Compared to the old peanut variety with an average yield of 1.3 quintals/sao, this new variety has a higher yield, about 1.5 quintals/sao, and the tubers are also larger and more even. With 3 sao of peanuts, I estimated that I harvested nearly 5 quintals. Taking advantage of the sunny weather, my family mobilized my children and grandchildren to finish harvesting 9.5 sao of rice 2 days ago. It is expected that in the next 2 days, after harvesting the peanuts, I will immediately start preparing the land to sow the Summer-Autumn crop. Currently, I have planted seedlings for 3 days.
Yen Lam is one of the localities with a large planting area in the district. In the spring crop this year, the whole commune planted more than 443 hectares, of which nearly 315 hectares of rice, mainly fragrant, short-term rice varieties, and more than 128 hectares of other crops, mainly peanuts. In the past time, the local government and specialized units have directed, accompanied, supported, and urged people to closely monitor weather developments, crop time frames, and pest and disease situations to have timely and appropriate planting and care plans, thanks to which most crops have grown relatively well, achieving productivity and quality. In particular, this year, the locality has put into trial cultivation a model of intensive commodity cultivation of the L29 peanut variety on an area of 10 hectares in the Bac Yen Cooperative's field. According to the assessment, the L29 peanut variety is suitable for the land, grows and develops well, has large tubers, and firm seeds. The estimated yield is from 3.8 to 4 tons/ha, 0.3-0.5 tons/ha higher than previous peanut varieties in the same field. According to calculations, the economic value of peanut variety L29 is estimated at 110-115 million VND/ha, excluding costs, the estimated profit is 90 million VND/ha. With a sense of urgency, at this time the locality has basically harvested 98% of rice and is focusing on harvesting crops.
Compared to Yen Lam commune, other localities such as Yen Thang, Yen Nhan, Yen Tu, Yen Mac, Yen Thinh town... have a later harvest time, however, at this time in all rice fields and crop areas, farmers are also urgently speeding up the progress.
In the fields of Yen Thang commune, the spring rice has ripened, people are ready with vehicles and manpower to quickly load and transport the rice home after harvesting to avoid storms that may occur at the end of the season.
Comrade Dinh Duc My, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Yen Thang commune, said: Under the direction of authorities at all levels, the support of specialized units and the proactiveness and positivity of farmers in planting, caring for, and preventing pests and diseases, the spring rice and crops have grown well. In particular, this year, the commune has signed a contract for rat extermination services and used the service of spraying pesticides by airplane to limit pests and diseases, most of the rice area is not damaged by rats, the yield is high, and the people are very excited.
Ms. Bui Thi Hang in Cau Co hamlet, Yen Thang commune said: This is the first year my family's rice has such a high yield, estimated at 2-2.5 quintals/sao. With 1.7 hectares of rice, mainly GT25 rice variety, I estimated to harvest more than 40 quintals. Currently, rice harvesting as well as land preparation have been done with combine harvesters and high-capacity plows, so it only takes a few days to complete the harvest and prepare the land for the Summer-Autumn crop.
In the 2025 Winter-Spring crop, Yen Mo district planted more than 7,100 hectares, of which nearly 6,300 hectares of rice, mainly purebred, high-quality rice, glutinous rice and more than 830 hectares of vegetables and colors including: peanuts 253 hectares, corn 198 hectares, potatoes 60 hectares, the rest are other crops. The weather at the beginning of the season had a lot of rain, low temperature, but from the middle to the end of the season was relatively favorable. Under the attention and direction of all levels, sectors, and localities, the production plan was well implemented according to the seasonal calendar, timely care and protection, and the application of scientific and technical advances in production, so the crops grew and developed well.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Yen Mo district, the harvest time of the winter-spring crop this year is about 1 week later than in previous years, but still ensures productivity. According to preliminary assessment, the average rice yield of the whole district is estimated at 67 quintals/ha. At this time, most crops are ready for harvest. To protect production results, avoid natural disasters, and at the same time free up land for the summer-autumn crop, Yen Mo district has directed localities to focus on mobilizing maximum forces to quickly harvest spring crops with the motto "green at home is better than old in the field". As of June 14, the whole district has harvested about 40% of the rice area. It is expected that the spring crop will be harvested by June 20.
According to the plan, in the 2025 Summer-Autumn crop, Yen Mo district will plant more than 6,900 hectares, including 6,300 hectares of rice, mainly purebred rice, high-quality rice, glutinous rice and 606 hectares of other crops. The district also sets a target of having more than 500 hectares of rice planted, of which 75 hectares will be planted by machine.
To produce a successful Summer-Autumn crop, the district directed specialized sectors and localities to urge people to clean the fields, kill rats, and prepare the land as soon as possible after harvesting the Spring crop, and prepare seeds, fertilizers, and agricultural materials for the Summer-Autumn crop. The district also proposed specific technical solutions on seed structure, rice structure, and planting season.
Accordingly, localities will arrange to sow about 25% of early-season rice, finishing before July 5, the rest will be sown in the mid-season rice, finishing before July 15; actively promote farmers to use original, certified rice varieties to avoid pests and diseases, ensuring productivity and value; use color varieties with high yield and quality potential and finish sowing color in June. In addition, promote the application of scientific and technical advances in organic production; promptly monitor, observe, forecast and guide farmers to effectively implement pest control; ensure irrigation water sources...
With the close direction of authorities at all levels, the support of professional sectors and the initiative of farmers - this is an important condition for Yen Mo district to continue striving to produce a successful Summer-Autumn crop.
