Every Sunday, the multi-generational reading space in Gia Thuong village, Gia Hoa commune (Gia Vien) is bustlingly opened to welcome members, students and locals to read books and newspapers. This activity has been maintained for more than 20 years.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Manh, the club's founder, shared: "In November 2000, we established Gia Thuong Village Library with the desire to spread reading culture and improve the cultural and spiritual life of local people. In July 2021, the Library developed into a multi-generational reading culture club in Gia Thuong Village."
At the time of its establishment, the club had 9 members, now it has increased to nearly 30 people, most of whom are retired officials and students. The source of books contributed by members, mobilized for support or circulated from the Provincial Library is nearly 2,500 books, not to mention more than 300 newspapers and magazines of major newspapers such as Ha Nam Newspaper, Ninh Binh Newspaper...
Having worked ineducation for nearly 40 years, after retiring, Ms. Tran Thi Xoan joined the multi-generational reading culture club of Gia Thuong village. Ms. Xoan shared: “Every Sunday, I go to the village’s reading culture space to read books and newspapers, especially Ninh Binh Newspaper. This is an official information channel, helping us update current events in and outside the province. Ninh Binh Newspaper has an easy-to-understand, close-knit writing style, promptly updating issues that people are interested in. Thanks to reading the newspaper, I understand more about the province’s development orientation, about typical examples in studying and following Uncle Ho’s teachings, from which I live a more positive and responsible life.”
The Party's newspapers and magazines are official sources of documents and information channels to propagate the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws to all classes of people. Ms. Nguyen Thi Oanh, Secretary of the Gia Thuong Village Party Cell, said: "The reading and following of the Party's newspapers has been a tradition maintained by the Village Party Cell for many years. From accessing information sources in the Party's newspapers and magazines, we raise awareness, maintain our stance and ideology, clearly define our responsibilities in propagating the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws to the people, contributing to orienting public opinion. Also from reading the Party's newspapers, many creative ways of doing things and lessons learned from localities have been effectively applied by the Party Cell in the leadership and direction of local tasks. Thanks to that, Gia Thuong Village is always the leading unit in the movements and activities of the commune, especially in the new rural construction program."
In 2024, Gia Thuong village was recognized as a model new rural village. Learning and following the Party newspaper, the villagers donated 3,000 square meters of land, contributed nearly 3,000 working days, renovated houses, built roads and public works in the village with a total amount of money contributed by the State and the people of more than 18 billion VND. The appearance of the village has changed significantly, the people's lives have improved. Currently, the village has no poor households, the average income per capita reaches over 80 million VND/year.
For over 20 years, the Multi-generational Reading Culture Club of Gia Hung Commune (Gia Vien) has become a bright spot in spreading the reading and following of Party newspapers to all classes of people. With the participation of more than 50 members of many generations, from the elderly, retired officials, local officials to students, union members, and youth, the Club regularly organizes newspaper reading sessions and activities to promptly grasp current news, politics, economics, and society, improve people's intellectual level, and enrich people's spiritual life.
Mr. Dinh Khac Son, head of the Multi-generational Reading Culture Club of Gia Hung commune, shared: “Although it is a voluntary organization, the Club has established regulations and operates methodically, publicly and transparently. Right from its establishment, the Club has identified reading Party newspapers and magazines, especially Ninh Binh Newspaper, as the core content of its regular meetings. When reading newspapers and seeing any interesting articles or new news, members take notes to keep, apply, research and share within the Club. Many articles on politics, economics, society, on Party building and rectification, on studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh, or articles on health, tips... are compiled into a "handbook" for propaganda and research”. From the Club's proposal, the Gia Hung Commune Party Committee launched the "Newspaperization" movement, allocating a portion of Party fees, Union fees, and membership fees to buy newspapers and magazines, especially Party newspapers, which are provided free of charge to all village Party cells and departments and branches in the commune.
Comrade Bui Trong Tinh, Vice Chairman of Gia Hung Commune People's Committee, commented: "With 22 years of operation, the commune's Multi-generational Reading Culture Club is a meaningful model, creating a healthy and meaningful intellectual playground for cadres and people, while contributing to the effective implementation of Directive No. 11-CT/TW of the Politburo, actively innovating, improving orientation capacity, propaganda effectiveness associated with buying, reading, and following the Party's newspapers and magazines. The activities of the Club contribute to attracting a large number of cadres, party members, and people to be close to the press, becoming close readers of the newspaper.
We consider this a soft communication channel, very useful to bring the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws closer to the people. To create conditions for the Club to operate effectively, the local Party Committee and government have supported meeting places, introduced newspapers and official documents, and mobilized cadres, mass organizations, and people to cooperate and participate.
The Party's newspapers and magazines, including Ninh Binh Newspaper, are increasingly becoming closer and more practical to life, becoming an important bridge between the Party and the People. Not only reading newspapers to access information and supplement knowledge, members of Reading Culture Clubs and readers also proactively contribute ideas and feedback to the editorial office on content, form of expression as well as ways of conveying information.
Sincere and practical opinions from the grassroots will help the Party's newspapers and magazines improve their quality, stay close to life, and accurately reflect issues of public concern. From there, a close, two-way relationship between the Party's newspapers and magazines and the people will be created, together aiming at the goal of effectively propagating all aspects of social life, contributing to building the homeland and country to become more and more developed and progressive.
