Diverse Vietnamese language experience environments
As one of two schools selected by the Department of Education and Training of Khanh Son district as a pilot school to implement phase 2 of the project, in recent times, Son Ca Kindergarten (To Hap town, Khanh Son district) has implemented many solutions to enhance Vietnamese for children. Classrooms are decorated in a friendly and familiar way, with specialized learning corners designed such as: Alphabet corner, storytelling, getting acquainted with Vietnamese culture, reading books, etc., helping children actively explore and expand their vocabulary. Experiential activities and learning games integrating Vietnamese such as: Role-playing, creative storytelling, crossword puzzles, word searches, storytelling competitions based on pictures, etc. are organized in a variety of ways to enhance children's language reflexes. Vietnamese content is also integrated into outdoor activities, music activities, art activities, scientific exploration; the bilingual environment is changed every year, every season and with different topics, creating many spaces for teachers to organize activities. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuong Huyen - Principal of the school said: "The school has 160 children in 6 groups and classes, of which 98% are Raglai ethnic minorities. Thanks to synchronous solutions, the quality of Vietnamese language enhancement for children is increasingly changing. Children understand and speak Vietnamese better, and are more confident in communication."

In addition to organizing Vietnamese language enhancement according to the common program and documents, Ba Cum Bac Primary School (Ba Cum Bac Commune, Khanh Son District) also built library lessons to integrate and support the development of Vietnamese for ethnic minority students. Ms. Mau Thi Thuy - a teacher at the school said: "The lessons are flexibly implemented in the form of storytelling, games, images, sounds, exploiting digital library resources, or through group activities..., attracting enthusiastic and active participation of students, contributing significantly to the formation and development of Vietnamese language skills for them".
At Tram Huong Kindergarten (Khanh Binh Commune, Khanh Vinh District), the school builds an experiential environment for children associated with local realities and the customs of ethnic minorities living in the district. There is a rural market, typical agricultural products of the region, and traditional utensils of the Raglai ethnic group. The school also exploits available materials to bring into the classroom for children to experience and unleash their creativity.
Continued interest
According to Mr. Do Huu Quynh - Deputy Director of the Departmentof Education and Training, after many years of implementing the project to enhance Vietnamese for ethnic minority children, the province has achieved remarkable results. A system of documents and learning materials to enhance Vietnamese has been developed and put into effective use in educational institutions. Teachers have been trained in methods of teaching Vietnamese to ethnic minority students in accordance with local characteristics. Many good models and creative methods in teaching Vietnamese have been implemented and replicated. The Vietnamese proficiency of ethnic minority preschool and primary school children has improved significantly; they are more confident in communication and learning, contributing to improving the quality of comprehensive education. If at the end of the 2015-2016 school year, the rate of ethnic minority first graders completing the Vietnamese language program was 90.3%, in the 2020-2021 school year it was 92%, then by the end of the 2024-2025 school year it reached 97.6%, an increase of 5.6% compared to 5 years ago.

However, at present, there are still some students who have difficulty communicating and acquiring knowledge in Vietnamese. The province still lacks teachers who know ethnic languages and lacks appropriate learning materials for each region. Facilities and learning materials to support Vietnamese language teaching are not uniform in some localities. Coordination between schools, families and the community in supporting children to learn Vietnamese is still limited.
In the coming time, to maintain and improve the effectiveness of the work of enhancing Vietnamese, the provincial Department of Education and Training will strengthen the training of Vietnamese teaching capacity for preschool and primary school teachers; develop diverse learning materials, close to local culture, suitable for students' Vietnamese proficiency. In addition, organize experiential educational activities, integrate Vietnamese into the daily learning environment; increase the participation of the community and parents in creating an environment for children to use Vietnamese outside the classroom; promote the application of information technology to support effective teaching and learning of Vietnamese.
The whole province currently has 36/132 communes, wards and towns of 6 districts, towns and cities (Khanh Son, Khanh Vinh, Cam Ranh, Cam Lam, Dien Khanh, Ninh Hoa) belonging to ethnic minority areas, most of whom are Raglai people and some other ethnic groups such as: Ede, Tay, Nung... In the 2024 - 2025 school year, there will be 36 kindergartens with more than 5,400 children, 105 primary schools with more than 8,900 ethnic minority students being enhanced with Vietnamese.
