Yen Luong Commune: A bright spot in socio-economic development

In 2024, the Party Committee and government of Yen Luong commune (Go Cong Tay district, Tien Giang province) will focus on leadership and management with many flexible and effective solutions, not only building a clean and strong Party Committee but also helping the locality achieve many outstanding results in socio-economic fields.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

In the context of many economic fluctuations, Yen Luong commune has made efforts to develop quite comprehensively, maintain and promote economic growth, especially in the field of budget collection. The total state budget revenue from the local economy in 2024 of the commune reached over 2.3 billion VND, exceeding the assigned plan by 101.87%. This figure has demonstrated the tight financial management and the ability to effectively exploit local resources.

The agricultural sector is considered a pillar of the economy and continues to play an important role. The commune has harvested 599.5 hectares of winter-spring rice crop in 2023 - 2024, with a yield of 7.8 tons/ha; 590 hectares of summer-autumn rice crop in 2024, with a yield of 7 tons/ha and 6.7 tons/ha in the autumn-winter crop in 2024. In particular, in recent times, Yen Luong has actively transformed the crop structure with 120.35 hectares.

The commune has also effectively implemented the “High-tech Rice” model with a total area of 400 hectares, contributing to improving productivity and product quality. At the same time, the implementation of the demonstration model under the Project “Sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice” has also brought high efficiency to the people. Yen Luong has successfully built a growing area code with 3 codes granted (2 codes on rice, with a total area of 301.45 hectares and 1 code on vegetables, with an area of 9.35 hectares).

Yen Luong Commune Party Committee has achieved important achievements in Party building work. By the end of 2024, 10/10 Party cells had completed their tasks well, of which 2 Party cells had completed their tasks excellently; 99% of Party members had completed their tasks well, of which 15% had completed their tasks excellently.

In the near future, implementing the policy of merging and rearranging the organizational apparatus according to the project approved by the Provincial People's Committee, from July 1, 2025, Yen Luong commune will be merged with Binh Phu and Thanh Cong communes to establish a new commune - Phu Thanh commune.

And implementing the direction of the Chairman of the People's Committee of Go Cong Tay district, the staff, civil servants, public employees and people of Yen Luong commune will be consistent and unanimous in action, quickly stabilize their thoughts, unite from top to bottom, and follow the policies of superiors to continue improving the material and spiritual life and income of the people...

At the same time, 6 OCOP products with 4-star certification were developed, including many types of specialty rice such as: Do Quyen rice, Khong Tuoc Nguyen rice, VietGAP brown rice, ST24 specialty rice, Thanh Yen fragrant broken rice and ST25 brown rice. The livestock sector also developed steadily. Disease prevention and control work was carried out well.

The number of newly established enterprises in the district exceeded the planned target, equivalent to 133.33%. This shows that the business environment in Yen Luong commune is increasingly attracting investors. The whole commune currently has 15 private enterprises, along with many points of sale of agricultural supplies, construction materials, grocery stores, restaurants, etc., contributing to the diversification of trade and services.

The collective economy has also recorded significant progress. The commune has the Phu Quoi Agricultural Trade Service Cooperative, with 150 members and a charter capital of nearly 2 billion VND. The average income of workers in the cooperative is stable at 4.8 - 6.2 million VND/month. The commune has also implemented 2 projects to support the linkage of production and consumption of agricultural products.

Investment in infrastructure construction has been focused on, many important irrigation works have been constructed such as: To 9 Canal, Thanh Phong Hamlet, So Phen Canal, Phu Quoi Hamlet, and dredging of Quan Quan Pond, mainly using people's contributions. Rural traffic routes have also been built, maintained and repaired, ensuring travel and transportation of goods, such as: To 7 Road, Long Binh Hamlet and So Phen Canal Road, Binh Cach Hamlet...

In particular, the commune has a rate of 100% households using electricity (1,879 households) and 99.6% of households using clean water, showing a clear improvement in the quality of life for the people. Environmental work has also been promoted by mobilizing households to register for waste collection at the source, bringing the total number of participating households to 1,268/1,879.

CONTINUE TO DEPLOY MANY DEVELOPMENT SOLUTIONS

In 2019, Yen Luong commune was recognized as meeting new rural standards (NTM). Over the past years, the entire political system of the commune and local people have continuously strived to improve the quality of NTM criteria as well as socio-economic development and successfully built an advanced NTM commune in May 2025.

The rural traffic system of Yen Luong commune is increasingly invested in synchronously, creating a spacious rural appearance.

Accordingly, the development of economic infrastructure and cultural and social institutions has been increasingly invested in synchronously. Programs and projects have been implemented to support people in developing production and increasing income. Up to now, the average income per capita of the commune has reached 72.11 million VND/person/year. The rate of poor households has decreased gradually every year, and the material and spiritual life of the people has been gradually improved.

According to the assessment of Yen Luong Commune People's Committee, in general, in 2024, the Party Executive Committee of the commune focused on leadership, the flexible management of the government and the consensus of the people, the socio-economic development targets all achieved and exceeded the plan, and people's lives were increasingly improved.

Phu Quoi Agricultural Trade Service Cooperative contributes to solving employment for rural workers, increasing income for local people.

However, there are still certain shortcomings and difficulties, such as: The efficiency of crop restructuring is not high; production and business activities of enterprises are still limited; and there is not yet a diverse development of economic, trade, service and investment promotion cooperation.

Climate change, especially drought, salinity, the impact of diseases on livestock and crops, and unstable output make farmers hesitant to restock and reproduce... affecting people's lives and mood.

Comrade Do Thi Kieu Oanh, Secretary of the Yen Luong Commune Party Committee, said that in order to overcome the limitations and continue to promote the achievements, from the beginning of 2025 until now, the Party Committee and the Yen Luong Commune Government have set out key tasks and solutions such as effectively implementing preferential policies, supporting production and business, encouraging the application of high technology, promoting agriculture, industry, production, processing and consumption of agricultural products; continuing to implement the socialization project, policies to encourage investment in agriculture and rural areas; plans to develop rural industries...

Pay attention to supporting cooperatives and cooperative economic models to operate effectively. Continue to focus on effectively implementing projects and models, building specialized areas for clean vegetable production in the direction of VietGap; promote the transfer and application of scientific and technological advances in production. Monitor production and prevent and control diseases on crops and livestock; inspect fields, closely monitor weather developments, proactively prevent and effectively combat drought and salinity.

Along with that, the commune continues to promote propaganda and mobilize people to participate in implementing and maintaining the criteria of advanced new-style rural communes and continues to launch a widespread movement to mobilize everyone and every household to make efforts to preserve the traffic, health, education, sports and physical training works... invested in the past time to serve better and longer, contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of Yen Luong commune.
