After 3 days of competition at the Wushu World Games 2025 - a world sports event for sports not included in the Olympic program, taking place in Chengdu (China), Vietnamese martial artists entered 2 final matches but could not win gold medals.
In the final of the women's 60kg weight class, boxer Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy lost to opponent Zhiqin Li (China) with a score of 0-2, thereby winning the silver medal.
This is the first time Thu Thuy has participated in the World Games but she has made an effort to reach the final. This achievement is very encouraging for Thu Thuy as well as Vietnamese Wushu in the upcoming international competitions.
Previously, in the final match of the men's 56kg weight class, boxer Do Huy Hoang also lost to home boxer Sishuo Tang (China) and received a silver medal.
In addition, Vietnam Wushu also has 1 bronze medal in the women's 52kg category from martial artist Ngo Thi Phuong Nga.
Vietnam Wushu participating in the 2025 World Games has 6 athletes, winning a total of 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal.
At the 2022 World Games in the US, Vietnamese sports only had 5 athletes participating in 3 sports: Muay, Billiards and Wushu, in which Muay fighter Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat and Wushu athlete Duong Thuy Vi won 2 gold medals, bringing Vietnam to 31st place overall.
At the 2025 World Games, Vietnamese sports will compete in 7 new sports with 25 athletes, including 10 athletes in beach handball, Wushu (6), Aerobics (3), Billiards (2), Petanque (2), Kickboxing (1) and Muay (1).
As of August 13, Vietnam Sports has finished competing in Muay, Wushu and beach handball.
However, only Wushu won a medal, Vietnamese sports are still competing in the remaining events, including: Kickboxing, Petanque, Billiards, Aerobics.
