The two semi-finals of the 2023 National Cup will both take place at 6 p.m. on August 16. The more notable match is the match between Viettel and Binh Dinh Club at Hang Day Stadium. The home team struggled to win with a goal by Duc Chien in the final minutes.
Both teams started off with enthusiasm. The first chance appeared in the 3rd minute. Rafaelson rushed down to receive a high pass from his teammate. However, the Brazilian striker did not control the ball well in the first step and Thanh Binh cleared the ball out of bounds.
In the following minutes, Binh Dinh continuously created opportunities. However, their shots did not cause any difficulty for goalkeeper Van Phong. On the opposite side, Van Lam's goal was always in a state of alarm. The crossbar and the goalpost saved the shots of Essam and Manh Dung.
Viettel and Binh Dinh played a well-balanced match.
In the second half, both sides played a tug of war. The tempo of the match slowed down. Therefore, there were almost no real dangerous situations created. Just when it seemed that the winner would be decided on penalties, Duc Chien shined in the third minute of extra time of the second half.
Xuan Kien crossed the ball into Binh Dinh's penalty area, Duc Chien jumped higher than everyone before shaking his head to put the ball into the top corner of Van Lam's goal. The 1-0 result was enough for Viettel to qualify for the final. Their opponent was Thanh Hoa Club.
Coach Popov's team took advantage of their home field to defeat PVF-CAND. The goalscorers for Thanh Hoa were Trong Hung, Viet Phu (own goal), Thanh Binh and Hoang Dinh Tung. Thanh Nha scored the consolation goal for the away team.
The final match between Viettel and Thanh Hoa will take place on September 4. Binh Dinh and PVF-CAND will receive third place.
