In the context of a global economy with many unknowns, Vietnam is facing a major strategic test, as the United States - a major export market - continuously adjusts its tariff and trade policies. For the Vietnamese business community and FDI enterprises operating in Vietnam, this is not only a warning signal about the market but also poses an urgent need to reposition, restructure and rethink long-term development strategies.
Strategic Forum from VietinBank - Where businesses connect and shape solutions
The event "Import-Export Forum 2025 - New Strategy in Global Flow" will open a multi-dimensional strategic forum connecting businesses - management agencies - experts to help each business reposition itself in the global supply chain map that is being redrawn every day.
The program included two in-depth discussions between experts: Dr. Vo Tri Thanh - Director of the Institute for Brand Strategy and Competitiveness Research; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thanh - Fulbright University Vietnam; and guests from international organizations and business associations.
Session 1 will focus on policy changes from the US that impact businesses and recommend short- and long-term adaptation strategies: controlling origin fraud, expanding new markets, transforming import-export models. Transshipment warnings, trade risk assessments and perspectives from international experts will be presented candidly at the event.
Session 2 expands the vision to the group of manufacturing enterprises - especially the supporting industry in seizing opportunities to deeply integrate into the global supply chain, take advantage of shifting investment capital flows, increase the localization rate, and standardize origin criteria according to the requirements of multinational corporations.
One of the important highlights of the program is the live Q&A session between businesses and policy experts, market experts, representatives of industry associations and businesses. Businesses ask specific questions about their problems to receive practical suggestions right at the event. In particular, the shared content will not only stop at warnings, but also provide updated data and a recommendation system applicable to each group of businesses.
Global volatility and strategic pressures on business
Since mid-2024, the US government has made policy changes to tighten the trade defense investigation process, increase checks on origin fraud, and impose strong reciprocal tariffs on goods from countries with signs of “intermediate transshipment” – including Vietnam. This creates a double standard for businesses: they must both prove transparency of origin and have measures to prevent higher risks in terms of cost and reliability of the supply chain.
Enterprises operating in the import-export sector currently have three urgent needs: understanding new policies to avoid risks; reshaping market - product - operation strategies; accessing support and connection policies.
Not only the group of direct import-export enterprises, enterprises participating in the manufacturing industry - especially the supporting industry - are also facing an important turning point with a great opportunity to grasp. The wave of reshaping the global supply chain is creating a strategic gap as the flow of orders shifts, the criteria for selecting suppliers changes, and the position of Vietnamese enterprises is being re-evaluated - more deeply and carefully. This is a great opportunity for enterprises with enough capacity, ready to standardize and upgrade to participate deeply in the global value chain.
Faced with the constant fluctuations of the market, businesses need to shape appropriate strategies to adapt flexibly and seize opportunities. The 2025 Import-Export Forum with the theme of New Strategy in the Global Flow is expected to become a platform for strategic connection and effective trade promotion, accompanying businesses to expand markets, improve competitiveness and gradually affirm their position in the global supply chain.
