Pleased to welcome National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to Senegal, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko expressed his admiration for the heroic, industrious and labor-loving traditions of the Vietnamese people, as well as the dynamic development steps and breakthrough achievements of Vietnam today.
Assessing the visit of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man as opening a new phase of cooperation for the two countries' relations, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko said that both the President and Prime Minister of Senegal are determined to promote cooperation with Vietnam as a focus of Senegal's South-South cooperation policy. Recalling his impressive meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh last June, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko affirmed his wish to visit Vietnam soon to discuss specific cooperation opportunities between the two countries.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his joy at visiting Senegal, a country rich in historical traditions; thanked the leaders and people of Senegal for their warm and respectful welcome; and shared his hope that the two countries will enter a new phase of cooperation for the benefit of development and prosperity of the two peoples.
On this occasion, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man respectfully conveyed the greetings of General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man was pleased to share the results of the very successful talks with Senegalese National Assembly Chairman Malick Ndiaye, as well as the outstanding results of the Vietnam-Senegal Cooperation Dialogue in the fields of trade, agriculture and investment. National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that Africa is increasingly playing an important role in Vietnam's foreign policy, as demonstrated by the visits of high-ranking Vietnamese leaders to the continent in 2025.
The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that with its strengths in agriculture, Vietnam is ready to cooperate with Senegal to build a comprehensive agricultural development strategy. Vietnam also wishes to promote cooperation in other areas of strength such as telecommunications and digital transformation. The National Assembly Chairman proposed creating favorable conditions for businesses and people of the two countries to increase exchange activities.
Regarding cooperation in the coming time, the Senegalese Prime Minister expressed special interest in the agricultural sector, proposing cooperation in very specific areas such as experience in plant breeding, irrigation techniques, irrigation, off-season crop cultivation, training of agricultural engineers, etc. and affirmed that Senegal wishes to import more rice from Vietnam to help ensure food security. Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko said he welcomed and was ready to create conditions for Vietnamese technology and service enterprises to invest and do business in Senegal, emphasizing the possibility of Vietnam and Senegal becoming an effective bridge for each country's goods to penetrate deeper into the West African and Southeast Asian markets.
Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko appreciated the role of the Vietnamese National Assembly in promoting people's sovereignty; agreed with the proposal of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on promoting substantive cooperation between the legislative bodies of Vietnam and Senegal, for the benefit of the people of the two countries. National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man asked the Senegalese Prime Minister to direct relevant agencies to continue creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to seek cooperation opportunities in Senegal.
At the meeting, the two leaders agreed on the importance of promoting cultural exchanges between the two countries, and agreed that the increasing popularity and practice of Viet Vo Dao by the Senegalese people is a clear demonstration of the solidarity and friendship between the two peoples.
* After the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko witnessed the signing ceremony and exchange of cooperation documents between the two countries, including: Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and the Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs of Senegal; Memorandum of Understanding on rice trade between the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Senegal; Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the agricultural sector between the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Vietnam and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock of Senegal; Letter of Intent on developing friendship and cooperation between Can Tho city and Ziguinchor city.
