With the support of the two governments, Genfarma Joint Stock Company received technology transfer from Cuba to produce Cuban pharmaceuticals in Vietnam, opening up opportunities to access and master advanced drug production technology, reducing dependence on imports, especially in biological products and biotechnology, which is the trend of the world pharmaceutical industry.
Mr. Miguel Díaz-Canel said that biological products and biotechnology from Cuba are areas in which Cuba has many proud achievements. "The transfer of technology will bring mutual benefits and will promote the production of important medicines for both the Vietnamese and Cuban people," the First Secretary and President of Cuba emphasized.
Through this project, Vietnamese people will also have the opportunity to access high-quality drugs at reasonable costs, especially cancer treatment drugs.
With close and comprehensive cooperation between the pharmaceutical industries of the two countries, the Genfarma project will help improve pharmaceutical security and promote biotechnology in Vietnam, while opening the door for Cuba's biotechnology and pharmaceuticals to fully develop their potential, promoting their progress to the world market.
Previously, last May, a joint venture agreement between BioCubaFarma SA (Cuba) and Vietnamese enterprises was signed. Just 3 months later, the project was basically formed with modern facilities and complete apparatus.
The Cuban partner is the Cuban National Pharmaceutical Group - BioCubaFarma. This group has 51 subsidiaries, 9 joint ventures abroad, of which 6 foreign companies have production facilities.
Currently, BioCubaFarma has 164 production lines, including 11 overseas lines; exporting more than 300 products to more than 40 countries; transferring technology to Brazil, India, Venezuela, Algeria, China, Russia, Iran and Vietnam...
This is a testament to the deep political trust and determination to make biotechnology cooperation a spearhead field, bringing long-term benefits to both countries.
