At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son expressed his delight at the strong development of bilateral relations, especially the frequent high-level visits and contacts between the two sides that have recently been enhanced after the two countries upgraded their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the visit to Vietnam by New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon (February 2025).
The two sides highly appreciated the positive and substantive development of bilateral relations, welcomed the two countries ' Foreign Ministries for organizing meaningful activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations; agreed to focus on strengthening the implementation of agreements and results achieved during the visit, especially urgently building a new phase Action Program to implement the upgraded new Partnership framework; and soon organize the 3rd Foreign Ministers' Conference in 2025.

Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that New Zealand further open its market to each other’s agricultural products, aiming to diversify the supply chain, strive to reach a bilateral turnover of 3 billion USD by 2026 and double two-way investment; continue to provide ODA to Vietnam and strengthen educational cooperation.
Foreign Minister Winston Peters welcomed Vietnam's assumption of the position of coordinator of ASEAN-New Zealand relations and hoped that both sides would further promote ASEAN-New Zealand relations, towards establishing the ASEAN-New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework in the coming time.
The two sides also discussed enhancing coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums and international organizations, including supporting Vietnam's candidacy for important United Nations agencies; enhancing New Zealand's cooperation with Mekong sub-regional mechanisms and Vietnam's cooperation with Pacific island countries.
