At the meeting, Ambassador Do Hung Viet congratulated Iraq on successfully assuming the G77 Presidency, and highly appreciated the Chair's efforts in promoting consensus on important issues to protect the legitimate interests of developing countries, especially in responding to climate change, mobilizing finance for development and implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Ambassador Do Hung Viet affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and will continue to closely coordinate and actively contribute to the initiatives and common work of the G77.
Ambassador Abbas Kadhom Obaid Al-Fatlawi, Chair of G77, highly appreciated Vietnam's role and contributions in recent times to important processes of the United Nations in general and within the framework of the G77 group in particular.
The G77 President stressed that solidarity, dialogue and trust-building are key to addressing global challenges, strengthening multilateralism and upholding the rule of international law, especially in the context of an increasingly volatile and complex world situation.
The two Ambassadors expressed their appreciation for the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Iraq, especially the valuable support and assistance that the two sides have given to each other during difficult times in each country. The two sides agreed to further promote coordination between the two Missions to the United Nations, contributing to the development of bilateral cooperation.
On this occasion, Ambassador Do Hung Viet introduced Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan Anh, Vietnam's candidate for the position of Judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) for the 2026-2035 term, emphasizing Vietnam's strong commitment to promoting international law, especially the 1982 UNCLOS.
