Over 80 years of formation and development, Dong Nai's cultural sector has constantly strived, overcome difficulties, fulfilled its mission of pioneering on the cultural front, continued the source of "lighting the way", contributed to building Dong Nai people to develop comprehensively, and improved the spiritual life of the people.

Investing in culture

Immediately after the August Revolution in 1945, Bien Hoa Party Committee focused on building a revolutionary culture. In 1947, Bien Hoa Department of Culture and Information was established, organizing press, printing, and building an art troupe to serve the D War Zone and the temporarily occupied areas. In the conditions of shortage of food and means, the department's cadres, art troupes, and actors both served in art and participated in production, becoming a shock force on the cultural and ideological front, encouraging the spirit, strengthening the belief and fighting spirit of the army and people in the two resistance wars.

After the complete liberation of the South and the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975), Dong Nai province quickly established the Department of Culture - Information and the Department of Physical Education and Sports (now the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism) to lay the foundation for building a new culture, associated with the task of building and defending the Fatherland. With many diverse and rich activities, Dong Nai's cultural sector has promoted the strength of the masses, aroused a widespread cultural, artistic and physical education and sports movement, creating conditions for people to create many new cultural values.

Provincial Party Committee member and Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Thi Ngoc Loan said: Since the 6th National Party Congress, Dong Nai has entered a period of comprehensive innovation, and cultural and social life has also taken on a new look. The movement of the whole people uniting to build a cultural life has been widely deployed, becoming an important driving force in building a healthy cultural environment, associated with patriotic emulation movements. Cultural institutions have been invested from the province to the grassroots, many institutions have become symbols of Dong Nai culture, contributing to improving the cultural and spiritual life of the people.

At the same time, Dong Nai is interested in preserving and promoting cultural heritage, especially promoting the restoration and embellishment of relics. Currently, the whole province has 119 relics, including many special national relics such as: The Southern Vietnam Liberation Army Command Base (Ta Thiet Base, Loc Thanh Commune); VK98 Gasoline Tank - Fuel Depot (on Truong Son Road - Ho Chi Minh Road, Loc Quang Commune); VK96 Gasoline Tank - Fuel Depot (on Truong Son Road - Ho Chi Minh Road, Bu Gia Map Commune); Hang Gon Megalithic Tomb (Hang Gon Commune); Cat Tien National Park (Ta Lai Commune) ...

Traditional festivals in the province are maintained and held annually, many of which are listed in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage. Specifically: Dua Tpeng Festival (Bau lagoon) of the Khmer people, Loc Hung commune; Ba Ra Temple Festival, Phuoc Long ward; Cau Bong Festival of the Kinh people in Binh Phuoc; Ong Pagoda Festival, Tran Bien ward; Sayangva Festival (worshiping the Rice God) of the Choro people in Dong Nai... All of these create a rich cultural picture of Dong Nai.

Over the past 80 years, along with strong strides on the cultural front, Dong Nai has always considered family work as the foundation, a solid support for building new people and developing a sustainable society. Many projects, programs, and action plans have been issued and effectively promoted. Movements such as: exemplary grandparents, parents, filial children, cultural families... have spread widely, becoming the driving force for building a healthy cultural environment, promoting the role of families in orienting personality, preserving national cultural identity in the wave of integration.

Dong Nai culture in new life

According to Chairman of Binh Minh Commune People's Committee Tran Duc Hoa, although cultural institutions in the commune have had difficulties in terms of facilities in recent times, they have operated relatively effectively. Many art and sports clubs have been active, participating in competitions and performances at all levels and achieving positive results. In the new context, cultural development has been and is continuing to receive attention from the locality, both inheriting traditional values and innovating to meet the needs of the people.

Master Tran Quang Toai, Chairman of the Dong Nai Province Historical Science Association, said: The exchange and convergence of many cultural streams has created abundant vitality and rich identity for Dong Nai culture. Throughout history, we can clearly see the pioneering role of culture in connecting the community, fostering patriotism and arousing the desire for development. The important thing now is that Dong Nai has an appropriate mechanism to invest in and develop culture to its full potential. Thereby, preserving, conserving and promoting traditional cultural values; at the same time, promoting the image of a dynamic, creative and integrated Dong Nai.

The year 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the establishment and development of the culture, sports and tourism sector. Through many historical periods, Dong Nai culture has continuously inherited, innovated and spread unique values. This is an important foundation for the province to continue to build and develop Dong Nai culture and people comprehensively.

From the perspective of state management, Provincial Party Committee member and Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Thi Ngoc Loan said: In the coming time, Dong Nai's cultural sector will focus on improving the effectiveness of state management, clearly defining the responsibilities of each level and each sector, ensuring consistency in the organization and implementation of cultural policies. At the same time, the province will continue to invest in and synchronize the system of cultural institutions, gradually forming a modern public cultural service network, suitable to local characteristics, meeting the increasing needs of the people.

In addition, Dong Nai pays special attention to the conservation and promotion of heritage values, prioritizing the restoration and rehabilitation of typical historical and cultural relics, both serving traditional education and linking with tourism and local economic development. In addition, the industry will develop typical cultural products, take advantage of existing advantages, promote the application of modern technology; at the same time, strongly mobilize social resources to build worthy cultural works, contributing to the continued spread and sustainable development of Dong Nai culture.
