During these summer days, A To, a 7th grade student at Vo Nguyen Giap Primary and Secondary School, a Ro Mam ethnic group in Le village, Mo Rai commune, has been taking the time to review his lessons and help his family with work that is suitable to his strength. Seeing his son grow up and mature day by day, A Hanh, A To’s father, is very happy.
According to Mr. A Hanh, in the past, the Ro Mam people did not pay much attention to sending their children to school. When the children grew up, they followed their families to work in the fields, then got married, built families, and some people never left the bamboo village for their entire lives. The local government, theeducation sector, and functional forces, especially the 78th Economic-Defense Group, have promoted and mobilized families to send their children to school.
“My nephew A To and many other children were supported by the 78th Military Economic Group to raise, care for, and educate them since they were very young. They grew up in the love and care of the soldiers, so they have matured a lot,” said Mr. A Hanh.

As for Mr. Moong Van Nghe, a Kho Mu ethnic group, in Ia Ho village, Mo Rai commune, in 2024, his son Moong Minh Khai, a 4th grade student at Vo Nguyen Giap Primary and Secondary School, received financial, material, and school supplies support from Military Economic Group 78 under the project "Army officers and soldiers help children go to school". However, before that, Khai had been raised and cared for at the Team 2 Kindergarten (Military Economic Group 78).
“Since my child was a child, the unit has supported him to be raised, cared for, and educated in the best conditions and environment, so he has no distance or difference from his friends. He has been fluent in Kinh since he was a child, is bold in communication, and knows how to take care of himself,” Mr. Nghe shared.
The project "Army officers and soldiers help children go to school" has been implemented by Economic-Defense Group 78 since 2022. After coordinating with local Party committees, authorities and schools to conduct surveys and understand the situation and circumstances of the students, the Party Committee and the Group's Command Board decided to adopt 5 children and provide financial support for 23 ethnic minority students with difficult circumstances in Mo Rai and Ia Toi communes, with a total support budget of more than 860 million VND by 2025.
In addition to the support amount according to the project's regulations, Economic-Defense Group 78 also implemented many programs to support students in the area such as: Mobilizing resources to build kindergartens and schools in remote villages and hamlets, creating favorable conditions for children to go to school; supporting boarding meals of 5,000 VND/day/student; annually organizing meetings to commend and present gifts to excellent students; giving school bags, notebooks, and school supplies to children in difficult circumstances...
Colonel Nguyen Truong Vinh, Head of the 78th Military Economic Group, said that in 2024, the unit inaugurated and put into use the 25-3 Kindergarten with a total investment of 14.7 billion VND sponsored by military enterprises and other funds of the 78th Military Economic Group and the 15th Army Corps. The 25-3 Kindergarten is designed with modern facilities and teaching equipment to ensure the education of more than 300 children.
Also in 2024, with funding support from businesses, Economic-Defense Group 78 built and put into use the Ia Ho village school, Mo Rai commune, ensuring 50 children can study and rest. Currently, 25-3 Kindergarten has one central school and 8 satellite schools spread across Mo Rai commune. In the 2024-2025 school year, the school educates 518 children in preschool and nursery age groups, of which more than 86% are ethnic minorities.
In addition to studying the full content and program as prescribed, the Party Committee and the command of the 78th Military Economic Group also coordinate with the school to actively apply the STEAM educational method; carry out the topics "Enhancing Vietnamese speaking practice", "Building a child-centered environment", life skills education for children... and strive to bring the school to meet national standards level 1 next year.
“The schools and school sites that have been invested in and built, together with the project “Army officers and soldiers help children go to school” and the support activities of the 78th Military Economic Group, not only help ethnic minority students have good conditions to study, practice, and nurture their dreams, but also help families feel secure in working and staying in the area. Thereby, building a solid position of people's hearts at the border,” Colonel Nguyen Truong Vinh emphasized.
