With a total new investment of AUD 2.5 million, the Australian Government has established relationships with four new partners in the Mekong Delta, including a partner implementing the initiative Promoting Climate-Resilient Agribusiness for Women.

Speaking at the event in Can Tho City, Australian Consul General to Ho Chi Minh City Sarah Hooper said, "Australia is committed to being a sustainable development partner for the Mekong Delta. The Mekong Delta Climate Change Adaptation Partnership is designed to support the efforts of the Governments of Vietnam and Australia to address the challenges of climate change."

Since 2016, the Australian Government has invested over AUD 9.4 million under the Business Partnership Platform (BPP) in Vietnam, of which more than AUD 4.3 million has been invested in the Mekong Delta region.

BPP partnerships in the Mekong Delta aim to support Vietnamese and Australian efforts by piloting new models and technologies in climate change adaptation, scaling up successful initiatives and delivering significant social, gender equality and development benefits to communities in the Mekong Delta.

In August, on the occasion of Australia and Vietnam celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced a 94.5 million AUD climate change adaptation support package for the Mekong Delta, including the BPP Climate Change Adaptation Program.

Since its inception in 2016, the BPP Program has established 16 business partnerships in Vietnam, of which 7 partnerships have been implemented in the Mekong Delta.
