On the evening of July 30, the Vietnam U23 team returned to Ho Chi Minh City after winning the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship held in Indonesia. Coach Kim Sang Sik's team defeated Indonesia U23 1-0 in the final match on July 29 to win the championship for the third consecutive time.

After nearly an hour of getting their luggage, the U23 team walked out of the Tan Son Nhat airport lobby while fans awaited.

The championship trophy was held by captain Khuat Van Khang, accompanied by coach Kim Sang Sik and head of delegation Tran Anh Tu - vice president of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

Everyone's face was radiant. Especially when there were many fans at Tan Son Nhat airport to welcome me.

Going to a more open area to take souvenir photos with the whole team and answer interviews, the U23 Vietnam team was constantly interrupted by many fans who crowded in to take selfies with coach Kim Sang Sik and captain Van Khang with the championship trophy.

Patiently waiting for the photoshoot to finish, fans started to approach their favorite idols to ask for autographs and take pictures with them. Almost all the players had to sign autographs and take pictures non-stop.

Coach Kim Sang Sik expressed his happiness at the warm welcome from fans.

The Korean coach said the Vietnam U23 team will temporarily say goodbye before entering two important upcoming tournaments: the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers in September and the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand at the end of the year.

He said: "Winning the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship makes us extremely happy, but we will also have to immediately start preparing for the two remaining important tournaments from now until the end of the year. Especially the 33rd SEA Games.

After the failure at the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, the opponents will definitely study the Vietnam U23 team carefully and at the same time supplement their squad for the 33rd SEA Games. In particular, the Indonesia U23 team can add naturalized players. Therefore, we must also prepare more carefully to continue to compete successfully at the 33rd SEA Games."

Except for some players in the South who will return home right at Tan Son Nhat airport, coach Kim Sang Sik, the coaching staff and the remaining players will continue flying to Hanoi at 8:00 p.m.
