Spain became the first-ever FIFA Women's World Cup champions after defeating England 1-0 in a thrilling final on August 20 in Sydney, Australia.

Inside and outside the stadium, Spanish football fans hugged each other, bursting with emotion as the final whistle blew.

At the awards ceremony, Spain striker Salma Paralluelo was awarded the Best Young Player trophy. She played an important role in helping Spain reach the final of the 2023 Women's World Cup for the first time.

Spain star Aitana Bonmati has won the Golden Ball at the 2023 Women's World Cup. Meanwhile, England goalkeeper Mary Earps was awarded the Golden Glove, honouring her particularly important contributions to the team during the tournament.

Speaking after the match, England head coach Sarina Wiegman said her players were disappointed but proud of the performance. She said: "We gave it our all against a very strong side. In the first half we couldn't press and attack. So we changed tactics and went back to a 4-3-3 after the break. England recovered but couldn't get back into the game."

Coach Wiegman said: "I think overall, in the whole tournament, they were the team that played the best football. So congratulations to Spain."

Spain, who are taking part in the Women’s World Cup for the third time, have seen a remarkable rise in women’s football. Just four years after winning their first ever Women’s World Cup, Spain have taken the tournament by storm with some spectacular performances and a historic victory for their home fans.

The 2023 Women's World Cup - co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand for the first time - has come to a close with emotions and beautiful moments. 75,784 fans still packed the stands of Sydney Olympic Stadium to witness every emotional moment of the thrilling final between Spain and England.

The 2023 Women's World Cup will not only rekindle passion for football in countries that prefer other sports such as cricket, but also attract thousands of fans who have never heard of the sport.
