At noon on July 25, Mr. Nguyen Viet Tan, Director of Vietnam Expressway Engineering Services Joint Stock Company (VEC E), the management unit of Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, informed that at 9:30 am, the above expressway was officially reopened to traffic, after many days of repairing the expansion joints of Long Thanh Bridge. According to Mr. Tan, the construction was completed 2 hours earlier than the original schedule (12 noon).

The early opening of the road is good news for thousands of people and drivers traveling on this vital route. The severe traffic congestion that has lasted for more than 10 days, especially on weekends, has greatly affected travel and freight transport in this area.
The 55km Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, a strategic traffic route, is currently overloaded after nearly 10 years of operation. The urgent completion of repairs and opening to traffic on schedule is a great effort by the management unit and functional agencies, helping to reduce traffic pressure for the eastern gateway area of Ho Chi Minh City.
Since July 15, VEC E has been repairing the expansion joints on Long Thanh Bridge, forcing it to close a lane from Dong Nai to Ho Chi Minh City and limit traffic speed. This has caused prolonged congestion, seriously affecting people's travel, especially on weekends.

To reduce traffic pressure, VEC E In coordination with relevant units, the Traffic Police provide guidance on alternative routes such as National Highway 1, National Highway 51, Cat Lai ferry and Vung Tau - Can Gio sea ferry route... to help people have more options.
Faced with serious congestion, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has worked directly with VEC E to speed up progress. Early completion will help restore normal traffic, minimizing impacts on people and vehicles traveling on the route.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction also said that in the coming time, it will submit to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee a document requesting traffic infrastructure management units (not under the management of the City) to coordinate and have the opinion of Ho Chi Minh City before constructing projects, especially on key traffic routes, to avoid repeating the congestion situation like at Long Thanh Bridge recently.
Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway is seriously overloaded. To meet the increasing traffic demand, VEC E plans to start expanding the section from Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2 to the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway intersection next August. The section from An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2, managed by Ho Chi Minh City, is also planned to be expanded this year.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway was put into operation in 2015 with a scale of 4 lanes, and is a key traffic route connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Southeast provinces and the Central Highlands. However, after nearly 10 years of operation, this route is under great pressure from the increasing traffic volume, requiring synchronous and long-term infrastructure solutions to ensure traffic safety and efficiency.
