Reflecting to Thanh Nien Newspaper, many candidates said that Ho Chi Minh City Banking University had exam scores higher than the school's announced standard score but still failed to admit students to the law and economic law majors because the school changed the admission requirements.
These candidates applied for admission to the Law and Economic Law majors at the Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City but did not receive admission notices even though their admission scores were higher than the standard scores announced by the school on August 22. Meanwhile, the school's staff called the candidates to inform them that their applications were rejected because they did not meet the school's criteria. According to the information, by the afternoon of August 24, the school had changed the content of Official Dispatch No. 1122 dated July 23 regarding the secondary criteria for admission to the Law and Economic Law majors this year.
Specifically, the information reflected in the school's previous announcement on July 23 regarding the threshold for ensuring input quality for regular university admission in 2025 has separate regulations for the law and economic law majors. The content of this announcement states: "Admission combinations with math and literature, or math or literature must achieve a minimum of 6 points or higher (on a 10-point scale, for other methods, math and literature scores are converted to the corresponding 10-point scale)".
Currently, on the school's website, Official Dispatch No. 1122 dated July 23 is still available, but one content has been adjusted regarding the additional criteria for admission to the Law and Economic Law majors. Specifically, the new notice states: "Candidates with Math and Literature must achieve a minimum score of 6 points or higher (on a 10-point scale); other methods of Math and Literature scores are converted to the corresponding 10-point scale."
Explaining the difference in the two announcements above, this reader gives an example: according to the initial announcement, a candidate applying for block D01 (math-literature-English) to the law or international law major of the school must have a score of 6 or higher in math and literature; a candidate applying for block C00 (literature-history-geography) must have a score of 6 or higher in literature.
"But now that the school has adjusted the new announcement, candidates applying for any combination must score above 6 points in both literature and math. This means that candidates applying for combination C00 without math still need to score at least 6 points in math to be eligible for admission. Candidates applying for C00 who do not score at least 6 points in math, even though their test scores in 3 subjects are higher than the school's announced standard score, will still not be admitted," a reader expressed his indignation.
Thanh Nien Newspaper reporters contacted Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City about the incident. Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City said it was receiving the information and would soon notify candidates.
On March 14 this year, the Minister of Education and Training issued a decision on the standards for university-level legal training programs. Accordingly, students must achieve a total admission score of at least 60% of the maximum score. Math and literature, or math or literature in the admission combination must be 6 points or higher.
This year, Ho Chi Minh City Banking University will enroll nearly 4,600 students, according to the following admission methods: direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training; combined consideration of high school transcripts and high school achievements; consideration of 2025 high school graduation exam scores; consideration of V-SAT competency assessment test results; consideration of high school transcripts combined with interviews (programs with international partners granting degrees). The school announced a common converted standard score for all methods on a 30-point scale, ranging from 18 to 23.6 depending on the major. In particular, the law and economic law majors will recruit 5 groups. Of which, 4 groups only have math or literature, one group has both math and literature, which is math-literature-English.
