Representatives of the Chinese and Argentine governments signed a cooperation plan to jointly promote the construction of the BRI in Beijing on June 3, according to a statement posted on the website of China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

The plan will fully implement the important consensus reached by leaders of both countries on promoting high-quality development of the BRI and strengthening cooperation in areas including infrastructure, energy, economy and trade, finance, people-to-people exchanges and culture.

The cooperation plan is of great significance to deepening political mutual trust and strategic alignment between China and Argentina, and is conducive to promoting practical cooperation between the two countries in various fields, the NDRC said.

Sharing with the Global Times, Mr. Zhou Zhiwei, a Latin American research expert at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said that the signing of the agreement is a step to implement the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two countries in February 2022, and will further strengthen cooperation under the BRI in various fields, with many plans and projects.

According to Xinhua , the two sides laid out a framework for sustainable development and comprehensive economic cooperation, aiming to further promote actions and projects to deepen, innovate and diversify economic relations as well as enhance regional connectivity.

The cooperation plan "has exemplary significance for major Latin American countries such as Brazil, Colombia and Mexico that have not signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China," said Wang Youming, director of the Institute of Developing Countries at the China Institute of International Studies in Beijing.
