NDO – On the morning of September 8, storm No. 3 weakened into a tropical depression on land in the Northwest region. Up to now, on land, storm No. 3 has killed 7 people and injured 86 people, many houses and trees have collapsed. During the night, Vinh Phuc police rescued 3 people trapped in the storm. At sea, 7 ships had incidents and accidents in the waters of Quang Ninh and Hai Phong , 1 person died, 13 crew members are missing. This morning, 9 crew members on 2 ships were rescued.

Storm No. 3 has weakened into a tropical depression. At 7:00 a.m. on September 8, the center of the tropical depression was at about 21.3 degrees North latitude; 104.7 degrees East longitude, on the mainland of the Northwest region. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression is level 6 (39-49 km/h), gusting to level 7, moving westward at a speed of 10-15 km/h.

According to a quick report on initial damage from localities, storm No. 3 (super typhoon Yagi) killed 7 people (Quang Ninh and Hanoi each had 3 people, Hai Duong had 1 person) and injured 86 people (Quang Ninh had 58 people, Hai Phong had 20 people, Hanoi had 8 people).

Thousands of trees in Hanoi were broken, including many valuable ancient trees. Many cars were damaged, houses had their roofs blown off, electric poles were broken, and large areas of rice and crops were flooded.

At sea, 7 ships had incidents and accidents in the waters of Quang Ninh and Hai Phong, 1 person died, 13 crew members are missing. Many cages were swept away.

Many trains are back on route after the storm

According to information from Vietnam Railways Corporation, as of the morning of September 8, storm No. 3 has affected a number of locations on the railway line.

Specifically, the routes Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City, Gia Lam - Hai Phong, Yen Vien - Lao Cai, Bac Hong - Van Dien had many fallen trees obstructing traffic. The unit promptly organized to clear and restore the road, ensuring safety for trains and passengers.

Particularly on the Hanoi - Dong Dang route, it is currently raining heavily. In many locations, trees have fallen onto the railway, the top of the rail is flooded. The unit is continuing to monitor and clear the road to clear it as soon as possible.

On the Kep – Ha Long – Cai Lan line, the storm caused trees and information poles to fall onto the railway. Authorities are also urgently working to clear them as soon as possible. On the other hand, on some railway lines, many sections of suspended information cables were crushed by fallen trees, and many information poles fell onto the railway.

Due to the incident of trees and information poles falling onto the railway on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route, some trains had to stop at stations along the way, and trains departing from Hanoi station were later than scheduled to wait for the route to be cleared.

Regarding the work of overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3, Vinh Phu, Ha Thai, Ha Lang, and Ha Hai Railway Joint Stock Companies have directed their functional departments, teams, and road supply and demand departments to promptly overcome the consequences of trees falling on the railway lines, ensuring construction safety and railway traffic safety; Hanoi Railway Signal and Information Joint Stock Company has organized repairs and security at the above-mentioned broken barrier locations.

To cope with storm No. 3, Vietnam Railways Corporation also continues to cancel passenger trains LP3 and LP6 (Hanoi - Hai Phong route) departing today.

For now, there are some preliminary damages as follows:

About people : 9 people died (Hoa Binh: 4, Quang Ninh: 3, Hai Phong: 1, Hai Duong: 1); 186 people were injured (Quang Ninh: 157, Hai Phong: 13, Hai Duong: 5, Hanoi: 10).

At around 0:05 a.m. on September 8, in Xom Cham, Tan Minh commune, Da Bac district, Hoa Binh province, a landslide occurred in a household, killing 4 people and injuring 1 person.

Regarding assets: 25 small cement and timber ships sank at anchorages in Quang Ninh, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Hai Duong. Hanoi suffered widespread power and communication outages.

Due to the long duration of the storm and the sustained intensity of the storm, very strong gusts of wind, 3,279 houses were damaged; 401 electric poles were broken; many shops, offices, and schools had their roofs blown off or damaged; many advertising signs and telecommunication poles were broken; urban trees were uprooted and broken along the roads in provinces and cities such as Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Hanoi, etc.

Faced with the risk of a dam failure in Yen Lap Tay area (Minh Thanh ward, Quang Yen town), local authorities have issued a notice about the possibility of a dam failure and actively supported households in the area who are urgently evacuating to a safe area.

In Dong Trieu town, preliminary statistics as of the morning of September 8 showed that the entire town had lost power, with a total of 277 broken electric poles (including one 110KV high-voltage pole in Binh Khe commune); 3,885 houses had their roofs blown off; 5,928 trees were broken; 208 hectares of crops; 183 hectares of rice. Vinh Phuc police rescue 3 people trapped in storm

At 11:35 p.m. on September 7, Tam Dao District Police received a report that the land of Mr. Do Van Sy (born in 1973, in Tan Tien village, Dao Tru commune, Tam Dao district) was flooded due to water from the stream next to the house overflowing and completely isolated from the surrounding areas.

At 10:45 a.m. on September 7, at Van Hoa military port, Van Yen commune, Van Don district, Quang Ninh province. At the time when storm No. 3 Yagi was making landfall directly in the unit's military area, Brigade 169, Region 1 of the Navy discovered 2 fishing boats (1 iron-hulled boat with unknown registration number, 1 wooden-hulled boat with registration number HP-902.92TS) and 1 boat drifted by waves and wind into Van Hoa port.

During the wind gusts of level 14-15, the lives of fishermen on board were extremely dangerous, the Brigade Command directed the use of large-tonnage vehicles to quickly approach and support the fishermen on board.
