On June 26, Hung Yen Provincial Police announced that they had just broken up a case, arrested 3 suspects, and seized over 1,000 tons of fake, smuggled vegetable oil nationwide. Do Thi Ngoc Mai, Nguyen Trong Nang, and Dang Thi Phuong were the ringleaders.

Accordingly, the suspects established many companies including companies importing vegetable oil for animal feed, companies importing vegetable oil for food, companies producing bottled food oil to import and distribute goods domestically and abroad. Because vegetable oil used for food processing is subject to 8% VAT, while vegetable oil used as raw material for animal feed is not subject to tax, the suspects used the names of the above companies to import vegetable oil for animal feed production and then consume and sell it to many companies.

As the Director and CEO of Nhat Minh Food Production and Import-Export Company Limited, specializing in the production and trading of bottled vegetable oil with the Ofood brand. In order to gain high profits in the production and trading process, Dang Thi Phuong established a satellite company specializing in importing and purchasing vegetable oil for animal feed, then using this oil to produce vegetable oil. In addition, Phuong also purchased vegetable oil for animal feed from Mai and Nang to produce Ofood-branded food oil for sale on the market. The Economic Police Department (Hung Yen Provincial Police) urgently searched about 20 companies and distribution agents suspected of hiding and related to the suspects' criminal acts; temporarily detained about 1,000 tons of vegetable oil with signs of smuggling; 50 tons of vegetable oil with the Ofood brand, many stamps, labels, books, documents, related assets and production lines, machinery for counterfeit goods production. Currently, the Economic Police Department (Hung Yen Provincial Police) continues to expand the investigation, clarifying all violations of the suspects and related companies and individuals across the country.
