Dr. Cao Van Chong - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City said that the city's sports aim to lead the country.

According to Dr. Cao Van Chong - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, the restructuring of administrative boundaries is not only for management purposes but also brings combined strength to the city's sports. "Before the merger, Ho Chi Minh City was always stable in second place at the National Sports Festival. Now, when strengthened by the sports foundation of two traditionally strong provinces such as Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau , we have every basis to set the goal of taking the lead," Dr. Cao Van Chong commented.

With a population of over 14 million people, Ho Chi Minh City is not only the largest metropolis in the country but also the nucleus of the Southern key economic region.

The rapid pace of industrialization and urbanization, along with a synchronous transport infrastructure system and a favorable investment environment, have turned this place into a strategic destination for cultural, sports and tourism activities.

The provincial planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 - approved by the Prime Minister - identifies Ho Chi Minh City as a regional and international development center in the fields of culture, sports and tourism. Dr. Cao Van Chong believes that this is an important foundation for the new Ho Chi Minh City to affirm its leading position.

“We believe that the new Ho Chi Minh City will continue to be an attractive destination for investors, attracting a large number of domestic and foreign people to live, study and work. The culturally diverse community with rich identities will create an ideal environment for comprehensive sports development,” he shared.

Regional Synergy – Towards a Modern Sports Ecosystem

One of the important premises for the goal of becoming a leader is the selective inheritance and integration of achievements and effective policies from the three previous localities. In particular, Binh Duong is considered a bright spot with a methodical strategy for the development of physical education and sports.

New Ho Chi Minh City Sports will strengthen regional connectivity for development

Binh Duong Sports Department has proactively coordinated with relevant units to effectively implement the Sports Development Project to 2025, with a vision to 2030. In addition, the province's integrated planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, with the highlight being the Cultural - Sports Complex - a strategic project to ensure modern facilities, serving national and regional sports activities.

Focusing on drastic direction, improving the quality of human resources for sports and physical training, and proactively innovating development thinking is the guiding principle for many localities, and now it is the general direction of the new Ho Chi Minh City. “We need to form a regional sports ecosystem with a multi-center structure, operating smoothly according to economic logic and professional thinking. Sports and physical training cannot stand outside that development flow,” emphasized Dr. Cao Van Chong.

The city's sports also aim to lead the country not only in the field of high-performance sports, but also in mass sports, school sports and professional sports. Ho Chi Minh City has enough conditions and internal strength to develop all areas evenly, thanks to its large population base, high demand for exercise and a system of cultural and sports institutions that are gradually being improved and expanded.

In the context that existing sports centers will be re-planned, supplemented with modern facilities and technology, the city will gradually become a place to gather, discover and nurture young sports talents, while improving the quality of grassroots sports movements.

Dr. Cao Van Chong expects: “With its potential, foundation and methodical strategy, the new Ho Chi Minh City Sports and Physical Training will continue to move forward, aiming for the number one position in the Vietnamese sports system – not only by medals but also by the spread and sustainability of a modern, comprehensive and humane sport.”
