The biggest change in the list of the worst-selling cars in Vietnam in May 2025 was probably the unforgettable climb to the top of KIA Morning when sales reached only 4 units, down 91.1% month-on-month. Once a "star" A-class car with thousands of sales per month, Morning's long slide reflects the difficult situation of low-chassis cars in the current Vietnamese auto market. Coming in second place is the Ford Explorer with 10 units sold, down 23.1% from 13 units last month. Although the decrease is not too deep, the low sales partly show that the large American SUV has not been able to conquer the majority of Vietnamese consumers.
KIA Soluto - a Korean B-class sedan also faced similar difficulties when it only sold 14 cars in May, a sharp decrease of 75.4% compared to the result of 57 cars last April. Sharing the third spot is Toyota Alphard with 14 vehicles leaving dealerships, down 33.3% month-on-month. This shows that even high-end models are not immune to the general market decline. In 5th and 6th place, KIA K5 and Suzuki Jimny both achieved sales of 17 units in May. Of which, KIA K5 sales decreased by 46.9% compared to 32 units in the April 2025 reporting period; Suzuki Jimny decreased by 32.0% month-on-month.
Despite its low sales, the Suzuki Jimny is not a model designed to serve the masses. It is a small SUV with an off-road style and focuses on off-road capabilities and is picky about players. In addition to Alphard, Toyota also contributed an MPV model, Innova, with 29 units, ranking as the car company with the most unsold cars in the Vietnamese market in May 2025. The C-size sedan model is Corolla Altis with sales of 21 units in Vietnam, ranking 7th and 8th in the rankings. The only bright spot in the top is the Isuzu mu-X with 32 cars sold, a 146.2% increase compared to the previous month. Perhaps the deep discount policy to "clear" old versions to welcome the mid-life upgrade in early June was the main lever that helped the mu-X grow sales strongly last month.
The Mitsubishi Outlander SUV model played a role in "closing" the list with 34 units sold, down 29.2% compared to 48 units last month. Overall, sales of most of the models in the top 10 worst-selling cars in May 2025 decreased compared to the previous month. The sharp decline could be due to many reasons such as unstable economic situation, changing consumer tastes, fierce competition from new car models and seasonal factors.
