Overview of the welcoming ceremony for the Spanish Prime Minister's official visit to Vietnam

(Dan Tri) - On the morning of April 9, at the Presidential Palace, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the welcoming ceremony for Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on an official visit to Vietnam.

At the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez paid an official visit to Vietnam from April 8 to 10. The national anthems of the two countries were played, and the two Prime Ministers and delegations and government officials of the two countries performed the flag-saluting ceremony.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh invited Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to review the honor guard of the Vietnam People's Army.

This is also the first official visit to Vietnam by a senior Spanish leader after 19 years, since the visit of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia in 2006 (Photo: Thanh Dong).

At the Government headquarters, the two leaders visited a photo exhibition marking the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership in 2024 and ahead of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2027.

After the welcoming ceremony, the two Prime Ministers took a group photo in the main hall of the Prime Minister's Office. The two leaders shook hands before the talks.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez entered high-level talks between the two governments.

Vietnam and Spain established diplomatic relations on May 23, 1977, and established a framework of Strategic Partnership towards the future in December 2009.

Spain became Vietnam's 8th largest trading partner in the EU, while Vietnam became Spain's largest trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Spain is Vietnam's first Strategic Partner in the European Union (EU). It is also one of the first countries to ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement.

At the Government headquarters, the two leaders witnessed the signing of a number of cooperation documents.

It is expected that during the visit, agreements will be signed in areas such as investment, agriculture, political consultation, culture and sports, as well as cooperation between diplomatic academies of the two countries.
