It is known that Nguyen Van Tiep canal in Cai Lay district passes through Phu Cuong, Thanh Loc and My Thanh Bac communes, but currently there is only one bridge in Thanh Loc commune, with a scale of one lane and a load capacity of 8 tons. This makes it difficult for people, especially students and parents, to travel when they have to use rudimentary means of water such as wooden boats and wooden ferries to cross the two banks of the canal.
This situation is not only inconvenient but also poses many potential traffic safety risks, especially when Nguyen Van Tiep canal has a very high traffic density. Vehicles wishing to reach Phu Cuong Commune People's Committee or Phu Cuong Agricultural Products Center must go further, 6 - 7 km, through other bridges.
Accordingly, the bridge project across Nguyen Van Tiep canal is designed on a modern scale, with a main bridge 182.47 m long with 7 spans, bridge width 10 m, design load HL.93. The bridge is designed to ensure a 6x30 m navigation clearance, using D1200 bored pile foundation for the bridge piers of the navigation span. The road to the bridge has a total main route length of 284.07 m, road surface width 8 - 9 m, design load 10 tons/axle, design speed 40 km/h.
The site clearance is expected to recover 6,637 m² of land with compensation for land, structures, trees and crops. The project investor, Cai Lay District People's Committee, has carried out site clearance and is taking inventory and calculating compensation prices for affected households.
According to Cai Lay District People's Committee, the project has a total cost of VND119,451 billion, of which construction costs account for VND60,456 billion and site clearance costs VND35,620 billion. When completed, Nguyen Van Tiep Bridge will create a convenient traffic route from National Highway 1 to Provincial Road 865, enhancing inter-regional connectivity, creating a premise to promote socio -economic development for the large rice-producing area of Cai Lay District and neighboring localities.
