Although starting to develop Pencak Silat in recent years, Cao Bang has made significant progress, especially in training young athletes. One of the highlights was the achievement at the 2025 National Youth Pencak Silat Championship last June. This tournament attracted 527 athletes from many provinces and sectors across the country to compete in Tanding (combat) in three age groups: 12-13 (10 male weight categories and 8 female weight categories); 14-16 (12 male weight categories, 10 female weight categories); 17-20 (11 male weight categories and 8 female weight categories).
Cao Bang delegation had 21 athletes participating and won 4 gold medals, 5 bronze medals; of which 3 athletes reached national level 1 and 6 athletes reached national level 2. Notably, Cao Bang's 14-16 age group excellently won 3 gold medals and 2 bronze medals, ranking third in the delegation, after Quang Ninh and An Giang . This achievement shows the remarkable progress of young martial artists from Cao Bang, reflecting the quality of training and investment in this martial art locally, when the achievement of this mountainous province at this tournament in 2020 was only 1 gold medal and 1 bronze medal.
Previously, the Cao Bang team won 1 gold medal at the National Pencak Silat Championship in April. In 2022, the National Pencak Silat Club Championship was held in Cao Bang, demonstrating the local interest in this martial art. The increasingly prosperous achievements show the development foundation of Pencak Silat in the province, especially in building a team of potential young athletes.
According to coach Bui Thi Hung, Cao Bang athletes have been practicing Pencak Silat since 2016 with enthusiasm and have gained a lot of experience. At the Provincial Sports and Arts Training and Competition Center, every late afternoon, Pencak Silat athletes practice enthusiastically together. It is the seriousness and hard work every day that has helped Pencak Silat become one of the sports that Cao Bang has identified as a key sport and has won many medals in recent times.
According to statistics, in 2024 alone, Pencak Silat brought home 22 gold medals, 16 silver medals and 30 bronze medals, contributing significantly to the high-performance sports of Cao Bang province. Notably, Nong Hai Van is expected to help Pencak Silat Cao Bang affirm its position and make a breakthrough in the future. The female boxer born in 2009 is the first Cao Bang person to win a world gold medal in this sport at the 2024 World Youth Pencak Silat Championship. The Tay girl's achievements not only bring glory to the province's sports, but also prove that Cao Bang can produce international-class athletes if it has the right investment strategy.
The commendable achievements are a positive foundation for the development of Pencak Silat in Cao Bang. From there, it is possible to attract the community, encourage more people to participate in training, expand the movement, especially the youth. Along with that, investing in facilities, upgrading equipment and organizing provincial tournaments to create opportunities for competition will also receive more attention from local authorities. However, to maintain and improve the quality of athletes, Cao Bang needs to develop a team of professional coaches and learn from the experiences of localities that are strong in developing Pencak Silat through programs such as exchange or training cooperation... to turn potential into a driving force for sustainable development.
