Currently, the situation of trading in fake, poor quality food , using chemicals exceeding the permitted threshold for preservation and processing is widespread, causing confusion and loss of confidence among consumers, including genuine production facilities. Fake foods are often processed from poor quality ingredients, containing toxic impurities such as heavy metals, bacteria, viruses, moldy ingredients or containing additives exceeding the prescribed level. Long-term use not only causes poisoning but also seriously damages the liver, kidneys, nervous system and internal organs. In particular, children, pregnant women, the elderly, people with underlying diseases and cancer patients are the most vulnerable when using milk, functional foods, nutritional drinks with fake labels.
To ensure food safety, consumers should choose to buy foods that are still within their expiration date and are fresh.
Recently, authorities, including Ca Mau province, have continuously discovered many cases of fake and poor quality food trading. However, that is only a small part of the countless fraudulent acts that are silently harming consumers' health. Many essential foods are mixed with real and fake, produced with poor quality but imitating reputable brands and then put on the market. These products are mainly consumed in industrial kitchens, serving ordinary workers. Worryingly, they are distributed through social networks, e-commerce platforms and traditional markets, rural markets, where consumers still trust to choose food for schools, hospitals, industrial parks, etc. With tricks such as cheap prices, promotions, deep discounts, these subjects have taken advantage of consumers' psychology to consume poor quality food.
For essential canned foods such as milk, consumers should choose products with clearly stated origin, source, and expiration date; and brands with a reputation in the market.
Mr. Truong Thanh Tu, Head of the Inspection Department, Ca Mau Province Food Safety and Hygiene Department, said that through the peak inspection period from May 15 to June 15 for essential goods such as milk, fresh food, packaged food, functional foods, etc., the authorities discovered a number of food businesses that did not ensure food safety and hygiene. The violations were mainly related to fresh food, processed food, confectionery, soft drinks and some types of functional foods. The Department has recommended that competent authorities handle the violations according to regulations, and continue to coordinate with other sectors to strengthen inspections and promptly correct violations, in order to protect the rights and health of consumers.
Consumers should choose to buy clean rice at reputable shopping centers and distributors to avoid using poor quality rice with chemical residues.
"Using substandard food, especially fake functional foods for a long time, can cause many serious consequences such as poisoning, allergies, metabolic disorders in the digestive system, and even cancer. In addition, this also causes patients to lose the opportunity to detect early signs of disease for timely treatment, causing waste of time, money and greatly affecting health," said Dr. Lam Thuan Hiep, Head of the Examination Department, Ca Mau Province Center for Disease Control.
Obviously, although this is just dirty food, fake food… but the harm to consumers’ health is real. Because it not only directly affects the quality of daily meals of many households, but it can also affect the lives of many people when using these poor quality goods.
