At the meeting, expressing her honor as a female diplomat, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang said that the baggage for each female diplomat when entering the international political arena is the historical tradition, the cultural character, the interests of each country and nation; promoting those traditions and characters, harmonizing the interests of their own nation with common interests to together create peace , create development, create international solidarity and cooperation, create sincere feelings, and attachment between countries and nations, for a world of peace, cooperation and development for everyone.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that Vietnamese diplomacy is proud of female diplomats who have gone down in national history, especially Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh, the first female Foreign Minister, Head of the negotiating delegation at the Paris conference, the next generations such as Ms. Ho The Lan, the first female spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Phan Thi Phuc, the first female Secretary General of UNESCO of Vietnam, Ambassadors Nguyen Thi Hoi, Nguyen Thi Huyen, Phan Thuy Thanh, Nguyen Phuong Nga, Nguyen Nguyet Nga and generations of female Ambassadors, who have devoted their whole lives to the cause of foreign affairs, contributing to the proud achievements of the diplomatic sector, contributing to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
The Deputy Minister affirmed that the generation of female diplomats today is extremely proud of the glorious tradition of the sector, proud of the examples that came before; will continue to nurture the flame of passion and ideals of service; constantly strive to learn and innovate to contribute to writing the glorious history of the sector, contributing to the country's breakthrough development in the new era of development, contributing to the increasingly strong development of relations between Vietnam and other countries and international organizations.
Assessing the pioneering role of Vietnamese female diplomats, Ms. Pauline Tamesis emphasized that Vietnamese women have made significant contributions in many fields, especially contributing to making Vietnam a bright spot for peace and progress. Along with that, in just one decade, Vietnam has significantly increased its ranking in the global gender equality index; Vietnam has strongly promoted the United Nations' agenda on gender equality and women's rights.
In the field of national governance, Vietnam has more than 30% of female National Assembly deputies, the country with the highest proportion of female National Assembly deputies in the region. She believes and hopes that there will be more and more female officials taking on leadership roles in government at all levels in general, and in the Foreign Affairs sector in particular, in Vietnam, towards equitable and sustainable development.
Romanian Ambassador to Vietnam Cristina Romila expressed her honor to be the first female Ambassador of Romania to be assigned to work in Vietnam since 2021 and to witness firsthand the strong spirit of the Vietnamese people. She affirmed that Vietnam is an extremely friendly country, always encouraging women to participate in all fields and professions; she personally has always been welcomed by close friends, despite geographical distance and cultural differences.
Vietnam is not only a beautiful country worth exploring, but also an extremely friendly, open and progressive society towards women, the Ambassador emphasized.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh conveyed the regards, best wishes and congratulations from General Secretary To Lam and leaders of the Vietnamese Party and State to the female diplomats.
The Prime Minister emphasized that in Vietnamese culture, women play the most important role in the family. Vietnamese women have always been respected and today are given equal access to all jobs in society.
The Prime Minister stated that Vietnam is looking forward to celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day, the 80th anniversary of the Diplomatic Sector's Traditional Day, and is celebrating the United Nations' International Day for Women in Diplomacy (June 24) to review the heroic tradition of Vietnam's Diplomatic Sector in general and women in diplomacy in particular.
The Prime Minister shared that over the past 80 years, Vietnam has suffered many sacrifices, losses, and severe, long-lasting consequences after the war. From a poor, backward, and devastated country after the war, with tireless efforts, Vietnam has now risen to develop strongly, as the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong once affirmed: Our country has never had such a foundation, potential, position, and international prestige as it does today.
In that sacrifice, that common effort, there is a very important contribution of Vietnamese women. President Ho Chi Minh gave 8 golden words: "Heroic - Indomitable - Loyal - Responsible" to Vietnamese women. The Communist Party of Vietnam also has no other goal than to bring national independence, freedom to the country, prosperity and happiness to the people. In that process, Vietnamese women have a very important contribution.
The Prime Minister also expressed that Vietnam is considered one of the 10 countries that best implements Goal 5 on promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls in the United Nations' sustainable development goals. The current rate of female deputies in the 15th National Assembly of Vietnam is 30.26%, higher than the world and regional average, ranking first in the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Union Council.
Vietnam is also one of the leading countries in terms of the percentage of women participating in peacekeeping operations, with 16%. Vietnam is one of the few countries in the world that has two days a year to honor women - International Women's Day on March 8 and the Vietnam Women's Union Foundation Day on October 20.
The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam highly values the contributions of women and has many female heroes in labor, combat, and production, including female diplomats, especially former Minister of Foreign Affairs and former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh, as well as a number of other outstanding female diplomats.
The Prime Minister was delighted to welcome female diplomats at this meeting; he hoped that female diplomats would always be healthy, continue to contribute to the country, to the world's diplomatic career, continue to make important contributions to maintaining a peaceful, cooperative and developing environment, promote multilateralism, call for international solidarity, so that we can cope with the complicated and unpredictable world situation, requiring a comprehensive, global, inclusive approach to solve it. The Prime Minister also hoped that female diplomats would continue to contribute to the common goals of the United Nations and the goals of each country.
The Prime Minister noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs always creates all conditions for relevant agencies, including embassies, so that female diplomats can best perform their duties, devote themselves to their best, and leave a good impression of sincerity, trust, and affection.
