The news of Trudeau’s trip comes days after Trump announced he would impose a 25% tariff on goods from Canada and Mexico until those countries crack down on drugs, fentanyl and migrants crossing their borders. Any impact on the Canadian economy would not be good for Trudeau, especially given his declining approval ratings, according to Reuters.

This is the second preliminary decision by the US Commerce Department in a trade case brought by a group of companies alleging that major Chinese solar panel manufacturers with factories in several Southeast Asian countries have caused global prices to fall rapidly by dumping their products.
The Commerce Department has assessed duties ranging from 21.31% to 271.2% on solar panels in the group, depending on the company, according to the new preliminary determination. A final decision will be made by April 18, 2025.
