Hanoi candidate fainted before 10th grade Literature exam due to staying up late to study

On the morning of June 7, Hanoi students took the first subject of the 2025 10th grade exam. Although the weather was cool this morning, some candidates still fainted due to fatigue from staying up late the night before to study.

On the morning of June 7, nearly 103,000 candidates taking the 10th grade exam in 2025 in Hanoi entered the first exam subject - Literature.

From early morning at the school gates of the exam sites, many candidates appeared confident and excited.

At the entrance of the Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Ms. Lan Anh (Thanh Xuan District) said that she had arranged her work since yesterday so that she could be there to encourage her child on both days of the exam. "To give my child the best spirit, today I personally prepared sticky rice with beans for breakfast to bring good luck," Ms. Lan Anh said.

At Nguyen Truong To Secondary School, Luu Tan Phat (Huy Van Secondary School) smiled and shook hands with his father before entering the exam room. "My father is a great source of encouragement, giving me more motivation to study and prepare for this exam," Phat said.

Taking the opportunity to review her lessons before entering the exam room at Tran Duy Hung Secondary School (Cau Giay), Thuy Linh (a student at Phan Chu Trinh Secondary School) said that a sister at Chu Van An High School lent her a shirt for luck.

“I am most worried about History - my major, but I feel quite comfortable with Literature because I have reviewed it carefully,” Thuy Linh added.

The weather this morning is cool but there are still candidates who fainted. At the exam site of Quang Trung High School (Dong Da), a candidate is being taken to the medical room. After regaining consciousness, the candidate said that he studied too late last night and did not have time to eat breakfast this morning.

In the examination rooms, the invigilators number the candidates before calling them into the room.

To reduce pressure on students, Hanoi has raised the enrollment rate in public schools to about 64%, equivalent to nearly 80,000 targets, an increase of 3% compared to the previous school year.

According to regulations, candidates need to be present at the examination room at least 60 minutes before the 8:00 a.m. signal to complete procedures and stabilize their mentality. The Literature exam lasts 120 minutes.
