Vietnam Airlines and China Southern Airlines establish first airline joint venture

Vietnam Airlines and China Southern Airlines have just officially announced the implementation of the first joint venture between a Vietnamese and Chinese airline from August 1, 2025, after being approved by the authorities.

The joint venture aims to enhance air connectivity between the two countries, while providing a wider flight network and seamless services to passengers.

The two airlines will coordinate flight schedules, jointly operate a number of routes and apply inter-airline through check-in service, allowing passengers to receive boarding passes for up to three consecutive flights from the first departure point.

In addition, members of the two airlines' frequent flyer programs will enjoy many benefits such as priority check-in counters, extra baggage and priority boarding.

"The joint venture with China Southern Airlines marks a new chapter in the relationship between the two airlines. We hope to bring convenience and added value to passengers, while contributing to the socio -economic development of the two countries," said Nguyen Quang Trung, head of planning and development at Vietnam Airlines.

On the partner side, Mr. Zhang Dongsheng - Deputy General Director of China Southern Airlines Commercial Steering Committee - said that the joint venture with Vietnam Airlines is an important step in the airline's international network expansion strategy.

Vietnam Airlines and China Southern Airlines have had more than a decade of cooperation, starting with codeshare flights in 2010.

In 2022, the two sides signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement, expanding technical, trade, service and ground operations cooperation. Each side's transit airports will also be jointly developed to increase operational efficiency and passenger convenience.

China Southern Airlines currently operates flights from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Changsha, Wuhan and Shanghai to Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang with a frequency of up to 111 flights/week.

Meanwhile, Vietnam Airlines operates more than 50 flights/week between Vietnam and major cities in China such as Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Tianjin, Nanjing, Wuhan...


More convenient when flying between Vietnam - China

From August 1, passengers traveling between Vietnam and China on Vietnam Airlines and China Southern Airlines flights will enjoy more benefits: seamless check-in for all three legs, accumulating miles and using common incentives of the two airlines.

This joint venture not only helps expand the flight network between the two countries but also contributes to promoting trade, tourism and cultural exchange between Vietnam and China in the context of both sides promoting regional cooperation.
