Find your own faith

The meeting was held at the headquarters of Huong Tra Ward Police recently with the participation of the Party Secretary, Chairman of the People's Committee, representatives of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward, the ward police and those who have completed their prison sentences.

The sentiments of Mr. Pham Hoang Duc, Secretary of the Party Committee of Huong Tra Ward, seemed to touch the emotions of those who had completed their prison sentences and returned to normal life.

LVT, a local youth who was once in trouble with the law for intentionally causing injury, shares his difficulties in finding a job.

T. said he currently makes a living as a painter, but his income is unstable so he wants to borrow money to learn to drive and find a stable job.

Listening to T.'s story, Mr. Pham Hoang Duc voluntarily supported him with personal funds, lent him money to pay for vocational training and promised to find a job to introduce to T. after completing his studies.

Mr. Duc wants Mr. T. to commit to obeying the law, not re-offending, and staying away from social evils.

“Everyone has the right to choose a positive attitude and become a useful person. T. and many of you sitting here have paid the price for past mistakes. You have lost the trust of your family and community, but I believe everyone still has the opportunity to start over. Find your own trust, your family’s trust, and your surrounding villages’ trust. Once you have faith, there is no need to worry about not having capital or jobs to continue living a useful life,” said Mr. Duc.

More sharing continued after the story T. told.

Ms. PTHT returned to her hometown in December 2024, after her 9-year prison sentence for fraud and property appropriation was reduced.

Ms. H. hopes to have a stable job to gradually pay off her debts to the victims of the past.

Understanding her situation, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward gave her a sewing machine and an overlock machine, creating conditions for her to return to her previous sewing job.

“I have taken responsibility before the State and the law. The years of serving my sentence helped me realize my mistakes. Now, I just hope to have a chance to start my life over and pay back the debt to those who were harmed,” Ms. T. shared.

The timely support of Huong Tra ward helped Ms. T. heal the wounds of her life, opening the door of faith for Ms. T. to start over.

Accompanying the wish to return to normal life

According to the report of Huong Tra Ward Police, currently in the area there are 162 people who have completed their prison sentences and returned to their locality.

Implementing Decree No. 49/2020/ND-CP of the Government and related directives, the Ward Police have advised the Ward People's Committee to assign individuals and organizations to manage, educate and help this group of subjects.

Specific activities include vocational training, job referrals, and support for business loans to help them stabilize their lives and become useful citizens.

Lieutenant Colonel Vuong Quoc Hoi , Chief of Huong Tra Ward Police, informed that the Ward Police closely coordinate with departments, organizations and people's committees of residential blocks, integrating propaganda at the grassroots level to eliminate stigma and discrimination against people who have completed their prison sentences and are reintegrating into the community.

Local police regularly go to the area, grasp the situation, meet and exchange, and encourage reintegrated people to strive to improve, find jobs, and avoid re-offending the law.

Thanks to the leadership attention from Party committees and authorities at all levels, reintegration work has been deployed synchronously and widely to each block, contributing to maintaining security and order.

“By lighting a lamp of faith, the locality is helping those who have made mistakes find their way, contributing to building a civilized and safe community. We will regularly organize this activity to promptly listen, support and accompany those who have completed their sentences, so that everyone can join hands to build a peaceful and happy Huong Tra ward.

Regaining the trust of family and community requires a process, so they themselves must work hard and cultivate morality. The government does not need people who have completed their prison sentences to sign a paper commitment, but to commit with their attitude and civic responsibility in the coming years," Mr. Pham Hoang Duc shared.
