Removing difficulties for shipbuilding enterprises

On August 29, the Management Board of Economic Zones (EZs) and Industrial Parks (IPs) of Khanh Hoa province held a meeting and dialogue with HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and subcontractors. Thereby, it aimed to focus on supporting, removing difficulties, and contributing to the implementation of the province's industrial development goals.

According to the report of the Management Board of Economic Zones and Industrial Parks of Khanh Hoa province, in the first 7 months of 2025, Van Phong Economic Zone attracted 14 new projects with a total capital of nearly 10,451 billion VND, 3 times higher than the same period; projects in Van Phong Economic Zone and industrial parks achieved revenue of 1.886 billion USD; exported 0.652 billion USD; paid 1,843 billion VND to the budget and created jobs for nearly 38,841 workers.

In particular, HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. continues to be the leading company in the industry. In 7 months, the company has delivered 15 ships and cabins to international customers; achieved revenue of 376.7 million USD; paid 10.5 million USD to the budget and created jobs for more than 5,400 workers (including about 2,300 subcontractors). These figures affirm investors' confidence in Van Phong Economic Zone and have many spillover values, contributing to improving the local investment environment.

Mr. Kim Bo Sung - Director in charge of Administration of HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. shared that in nearly 30 years of establishment and development, the company has experienced many difficulties and challenges that seemed impossible to overcome. However, thanks to the attention, companionship and strong support from the leaders of Khanh Hoa province, especially from the Management Board of Economic Zones and Industrial Parks of the province, the company has stood firm and developed stably, increasingly affirming its position in the international market.

Currently, HD Hyundai Viet Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. is implementing investment procedures to expand port infrastructure to meet production and business needs in the coming time. In particular, the company has a medium-term investment plan until 2030 and a long-term plan until 2050. To meet the requirements of this plan, the company has carried out procedures related to adjusting the project's operating time by 20 years (2046 - 2066) and investing in expanding production infrastructure and ports to serve production activities in the coming time.

The expansion of HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.'s production scale has created leverage for subcontractors to enhance their supporting capacity. However, in this transformation process, businesses have encountered certain difficulties. At the conference, representatives of HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and subcontractors presented difficulties and obstacles, such as: Difficulties in land funds to serve the needs of production expansion; unsynchronized traffic infrastructure; complicated investment procedures, etc.

At the conference, representatives of enterprises proposed that the Khanh Hoa Provincial Economic Zone and Industrial Park Management Board soon provide practical support or propose competent authorities to remove difficulties and obstacles. At the same time, representatives of enterprises also suggested issues related to infrastructure standards, vocational training, coordination mechanisms, site clearance, logistics and solutions to facilitate production and business activities. Thereby, helping the province improve the investment environment, attracting more Korean investors to Van Phong Economic Zone and the province's industrial parks.

Mr. Lee Hun Sick - Director of Sejin Vietnam Co., Ltd. affirmed that subcontracting enterprises for HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., in addition to serving the company's shipyard in Vietnam, also aim to export large ship components to Southeast Asia, Korea and the world . Therefore, the enterprises hope that the provincial leaders will pay attention and create conditions to arrange more land to expand the factory and improve production capacity. Along with that, they should pay attention to high-quality human resources and invest in developing transport infrastructure such as seaports and roads to facilitate the transportation of large-sized equipment of ships.

Speaking at the conclusion of the conference, comrade Tran Minh Chien - Head of the Management Board of Economic Zones and Industrial Parks of Khanh Hoa province said: "We understand the difficulties of enterprises. Therefore, we have strongly shifted our thinking from management to service. The Management Board has established a specialized working group with the Head of the group as the focal point to receive and resolve recommendations to ensure the legitimate rights of enterprises. The recommendations of enterprises at the conference were directly answered by the leaders of the Management Board and departments, branches and localities; the contents that need coordination will be answered in writing as soon as possible" - comrade Tran Minh Chien emphasized.
