Thanh Tra Hue is a famous sweet fruit specialty of the ancient capital. In the past, Thanh Tra was considered a sweet fruit chosen to be offered to the Nguyen Dynasty kings. Nowadays, Thanh Tra helps Hue farmers change their lives thanks to a good harvest and good price.
The pomelo trees are full of fruit, people are excited.
Since mid-August, pomelo gardens in Thuy Xuan Ward (Hue City) have been bustling with harvest season. This year, every tree has borne fruit, making farmers extremely excited.
Mr. Dang Phuc - owner of a garden of more than 100 trees - said the yield reached 4-5 tons, sold at 35,000 VND/kg, bringing in 150-170 million VND.

"This year the weather was favorable, the trees flowered and bore fruit a lot, this is the best crop ever," Mr. Phuc shared.
Also with more than 100 trees, Mr. Vo Tran Tuan Kiet (also in Thuy Xuan ward) estimated to harvest 5-6 tons, earning over 250 million VND. According to Mr. Kiet, thanks to applying VietGAP farming techniques, the fruit is both clean and has high productivity.
Thuy Xuan currently has 846 hectares of pomelo, of which more than 140 hectares are concentrated in the residential groups of Luong Quan, Dong Phuoc, and Trung Thuong.
The cultivated area according to VietGAP is about 23 hectares, with an average yield of 5-6 tons/hectare, estimated to bring in 22 billion VND this year.
Royal specialties enter Southern supermarkets
Not only is the season good, Hue pomelos have also entered the modern retail system for the first time. Thuy Bieu Agricultural Cooperative said it has just signed a cooperation agreement with Hue Specialty Company Limited, bringing more than 1 ton of canned pomelos with traceability labels to the KINGFOODMart chain - a system of nearly 120 stores in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ms. Le Thi Lan Dung, President of Thuy Bieu Cooperative (Thuy Xuan Ward, Hue City), said this is a turning point that helps Hue pomelos become known to more consumers.
"We want to widely introduce a fruit that was once a royal specialty, now ready to reach the large market in the South," said Ms. Dung.
The presence of Hue specialties in Ho Chi Minh City supermarkets not only enhances the pomelo brand but also opens up a sustainable direction, helping farmers increase their income, link production with the market and promote Hue agricultural products nationwide.
