However, scientists also suggested that the project needs to be further improved, such as: clarifying direct and indirect impacts on aspects of social life; strategies to attract and retain high-quality workers; issues of inequality in social conflicts, especially in terms of income, and especially adding possible risk scenarios to have appropriate response solutions...
Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Van Da, Can Tho University, said that there are still some issues that need attention such as environment, waste, service quality, social conflicts, especially people's income.
“Pressure on infrastructure, Phu Quoc’s capacity; post-APEC issues; scenarios of epidemics, economic crises… also need to be proposed to have specific response solutions, helping the project to be more practical and complete,” Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Van Da commented.
Meanwhile, Deputy General Director of Sun Group Southern Region Pham Duc Huy proposed that the project needs to clarify more solutions for developing high-quality human resources, especially policies to retain them to work long-term in Phu Quoc.

In addition, Phu Quoc needs a more open visa mechanism to attract foreign experts to stay longer, especially those in the digital economy; promote the application of AI technology in tourism promotion and advertising, and foreign language training for local people; develop health care tourism so that tourists stay longer, leading to more spending. In particular, it is necessary to soon have a scenario ready to exploit post-APEC institutions...
“In addition, the province needs to speed up the completion of infrastructure to serve APEC, especially airports, electricity, water and waste treatment projects; better destination communication; opening direct flights and having separate funds for marketing Phu Quoc…”, said Pham Duc Huy, Deputy General Director of Sun Group in the Southern region.
The conference listened to delegates' comments on the coordination mechanism in training high-quality human resources with foreign countries; applying financial technology; green credit capital; cyber security; changing tourism promotion work from going to promote to inviting partners to introduce so that partners can hear, see, and feel more clearly about Phu Quoc tourism...
Director of the Department of Tourism Bui Quoc Thai said the project "Building Phu Quoc into a center of high-quality eco-tourism, sea and island tourism of national and international stature", with the submission level being the Prime Minister.
The project aims to optimally exploit Phu Quoc's tourism resources, to develop tourism products that are competitive with other countries in the region and the world, in the direction of diversifying products, in line with new market trends; in which, tourism competitiveness criteria are all increased, with a strong brand in the domestic and international markets, meeting the requirements of sustainable development.
“The workshop heard many valuable contributions from scientists and experts… This is the basis for Kien Giang Department of Tourism and the consulting unit to selectively absorb to complete the project, advise Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee to submit to the Prime Minister for approval”, said Director of the Department of Tourism Bui Quoc Thai.
